So It Turns Out SHSH Blobs/APTickets Are Useless For A5/A6 iOS Devices on iOS 6

Like every iPhone jailbreak user, I regularly grab my SHSH blobs/APTickets using both Cydia and TinyUmbrella so that I have them in the future should I need to restore my phone to a version of the firmware Apple is no longer signing. Well it would seem I didn't get the memo that with iOS 6, SHSH blobs and APTickets are only useful for A4 devices vulnerable to the limera1n exploit. APTickets don't do anything for A5/A6 devices.

First, if you have a recent device, iOS 6 APTickets are entirely useless: you cannot use them to downgrade, you cannot use them to upgrade, you cannot even use them to just restore the version of iOS you are currently running; cached responses for iOS 5 are of general interest, not iOS 6.

D'oh!

Now I don't feel so bad for forgetting to do it for my iPad 2.

I also stupidly forgot to get my SHSH blobs for my iPhone 4, but I don't really care for the iPhone 4, as it's the wife's phone, and she'd prefer just to have the latest OS.

I do have it for my Apple TV 2, and there it makes a big difference.

Wait, so if I wanted to restore my iPhone 5 and keep it on iOS 6.1.2, I can't do it even though I backed up my SHSH blobs and have a copy of 6.1.2 on my PC?

That sucks.
