My Husband and I have wanted to take a vacation, and needed to get passports for his children. His ex wife refused to sign them for a long time, so the court ordered her to sign them by today. She showed up, and signed the documents, and then she left. We processed my passport, and then we left...All signed and finished...Yahoo!....But wait

We get an email from her saying she went back to the county clerk and tried to alter the documents, because she wanted to be the emergency contact on the form. (Of course we don't trust her)

Do you think it is illegal to go back after 2 people sign a document and one of the people goes and alters that document without permission of the other person who signed it?

His Ex-wife sounds like a real bitch. Did she get to alter them or was she turned away?

I don't think it's illegal, per se. I'm sure the clerk just laughed in her face though.

I don't know...the clerk seemed pretty easily ran over...and kind of clueless...so that is what has us worried...this is what his ex emailed:

Today after I got home from meeting you at the Office of the City Clerk and had an opportunity to look more closely at the passport applications, I noticed that the applications (page 2, #18) ask for an ?Emergency Contact-Provide the information of a person not traveling with you to be contacted in the event of an emergency.?

I returned to the Office of the City Clerk and provided my name, address, and home phone number to be added to the applications since I will not be traveling with the children.

The thing is...she is lying to the court about a bunch of things..so the trust level is very low on what she is trying to pull next..

oh and she never attempted to call on the cellphone that my husband always carries...she just did it.

You fill out the emergency contact info in the passports themselves.

I don't know for sure, but my first instinct is to say no. The documents required both parents to sign it so any changes needs to be approved by both parents.

I would say illegal, she is altering an official document which the other person did not sign to agree with "all of the above statements are true to the best of my knowledge etc etc"

You better verify what she actually changed (a little confused if she was able to change it successfully or not).

update: she states now that she added a supplemental page..isn't that still altering the original document without the consent of the other person that signed the original document?

Yes,

In the future any dealing you have with her in regards to paperwork should be done in front of a notary who photocopies the documents as they are notarized and keeps the copies on file. Next time you come across a document that has been altered by her after it has been notarized nail her ass to the wall in court.

This is fraud pure and simple.

passports are usually done in the presence of a person authorized to take the signatures and sign them also...so who would have thought this could happen...I can't even find anything close to someone saying this happened on the internet.
