So is it common for your brother not to be your best man?

I was talking to two buddies this weekend. One is planning on proposing this year. Both have older brothers but neither of them intend on have their brother serve as the best man (I don't either for that matter).

Is this common or is it assumed that the bro will be the best man for the most part?

Isn't the best man supposed to chop your head off if you can't go through with it? OH wait...That's seppuku...never mind.

I don't know many people who have had their brother as their best man, so I'd say it's not that common.

My brother is going to be my best man - but then again we're also best mates. Some people aren't that close with their bother in terms of friendship. Meh.

what do guys usually do if they just don't really have that many friends? If the bride wanted to have 7 of her bridesmaid at the wedding and the guy can't find a match?

I'm getting married in May and my brother is not my best man. He is one of the groom's men though.

I had three brothers to worry about this, so I picked my best friend. Easier that way.

Naturally, all three of my brothers were groomsmen.

It's not uncommon for the best man to be the groom's brother. Then again, it's not uncommon for him to be someone else. It's 100% the groom's choice, one of the few choices that most brides will let him make about the wedding. ;)

For what it's worth, my brother was my best man.

Pick the one person you're closest to - but make sure they're at least somewhat a responsible person. There's always groomsmen for brothers. We did each other's best-man duties.

The best man is the man best suited to throw you the most legendary bachelor party. If that's your brother, then so be it. Many times it's not.

Traditionally the best man is already married. Their "experience" with getting hitched is to help you get through it, and the groomsmen and bridesmaids are single.

Best man basically = best friend nowadays. That could be your brother, or it could not. Relation has nothing to do with it.

Ya, we don't get along and I think he's a f*cking asshole, so whether I even go is a question in itself.
