so is Herc Prophet II easily the best MX due to 5.5 ns mem?

coz I rather pay 10-15 bucks more for the 5.5ns instead of those evga, visiontek ones.

on the other hand, can I OC a evga, visiontek JUst like a Herc? The 5.5 ns doesn't really matter right, it just add to chance of a successful Overclock?

I bought the retail Prophet II MX in August. Awsome card for the price. I've got mine overclocked to 210 core, 220 RAM. Mind you, I've installed a small fan on the heatsink. After playing Quake III for an hour, the heatsink isn't even warm, and I get absolutely no visual artifacts. Just make sure to get the retail version of the card, as the OEM version ships with 7ns RAM. If you want to get the most out of your card by overclocking, the 5.5ns RAM on the Prophet II MX definitely will give you better overclocking capabilities. Also, even thogh this has no bearing on the card quality, the blue PCB and heatsink are really cool looking! Go for it!!!

Whether it's the 'best' MX card depends on what your looking for, if you just want a basic raw speed MX card than the Prophet is probably it.
It has the faster RAM and so has a better chance of successfully clocking higher than other MX cards, If your not looking to overclock than pretty much all MX cards will perform the same, and any would be good.

No not all of them. Originally both OEMs and Retail were equipped with 5.5ns Ram but only recently have they shipped slow speed ram on OEM models

I believe the OEMs come with 6ns RAM not 7.
7ns = 143Mhz
6ns = 166Mhz which is the default for nVidia's spec on the GF2MX

I simply attached a 486 fan with 4 screws. You can get 486 fans at most computer shops. And yes I believe that the OEM comes with 6ns RAM as Noriaki has stated.
