I don't mind waiting a little, as long as the newer ones are better. Nvidia would release new drivers every fifteen minutes, but half the time they would be better, and the other half worse than the previous.

That still works out to better drivers every half hour though:p;)

It's only been a month since the last ones. Nobody but Nvidia would consider that to be a long time. My best friend has a 64MB RADEON VIVO, and he's not complaining. It's an awesome card, for real. I even thought I was getting one for my birthday, but I got a GeForce2 instead. I'm still pretty happy though, but I might sell it, and get the 64MB RADEON VIVO. Plus, since DirectX-8 is coming out in the next 1-2 weeks, and all those extra features the RADEON cards have to support it, I'm sure ATI is having to get a bunch of new stuff ready. Personally, I don't think a month between driver updates is very long, especially considering how good the RADEON has already been doing for a new card.

All I can say now is that I am very glad I got a radeon over anything else.

I never knew that gf2 boards no matter what demanded an agp 2 slot, I would have been screwed if I had gotten one then for my flaky bh6 revision 1.02

I dont mind the current driver set either (non beta) that ati has out, they seem stable for me :)

I would rather have a few good driver sets than 50 crappy ones that lead to one good set

Its not like ati has quit working on the Radeon line or anything. I am using the retail 3056 drivers and have no problems whatsoever. Only nvidia/microsoft likes to release new drivers/service packs monthly. What is the point of releasing these new drivers all the time if they create as many problems as they fix. (they aren't bugs they are "features")

what about for dem AIW users? I'm debating what I should tell my friend to get.. a 32MB DDR or the MX DDR from creative (when buy.com has the damn thing in stock!!!)... i mean.. $110 for the MX, $150~170 for the DDR, and dunno how the rebate thing works (ie, is it store specific, i haven't really looked.. and i don't think he wants to wait for it).

But the MAIN concern is he is using win2k, and it's all about the drivers!!!!

Well...keep on waiting. ATI is well known for poor/lazy driver support for their products -- as well as Matrox. This is the main reason why I chose a GeForce 2 GTS. Nvidia, at least, updates their drivers frequently, adding better performance, features, etc. ATI, on the other hand...

Oh, and this thing about the Radeon and DirectX 8? I surely hope people didn't buy the Radeon based soley on this marketing hype. Are there any current games/software that full advantage of it yet? How many? 1? 2? 3? As I've seen from past ATI products, once games start to take advantage of all the newer DirectX features, the card becomes obsolete. It'll be 6 months to a year before you see software/game developers fully implement DirectX 8. By then, you'll want something that's better and faster (that's just the way it is). Don't get me wrong: I think the Radeon is a kick ass video card; I just feel ATI's marketing hype over their products never seems to hold true -- and their driver support DOES suck major ass.

Sorry you feel that way compellor.

Personally I am glad that ati doesn't have to release 50 driver updates in a period of two months just to get their product working properly.

Personally I have yet to see any major flaw with the current radeon driver set under windows 98 se

heck even if I wanted a gts I couldnt run one without a whole system upgrade (mainboard and processor)

and so far in the roughly 5 months the radeon has been available ati has released 3 driver sets, which if you think about it isnt that bad.

And it isnt just ati that is hyping up the direct x 8 support, but instead all hardware reviews of the radeon make a point to note this support and how no other manufacturer has bothered to implement it yet.

Nothing lasts forever in this industry (except here at NASA where we are still using 95a/b and decrepid machines)especially not video cards, but the radeon will at least last me another two years which I don't consider that bad for 150

i wouldn't say the radeon driver support sucks, it's just a tad slow for us win2k'ers.... i mean, ATI can't mess up, or they die. I just don't know if I want to place that gamble into my friends system. Tho, myself, if I had the money, i'd have my AIW right now :)
