So is anyone sitting right next to an HP 2u Server box?

This is called a last resort.

I need to know the combined length+width+height of an HP 2u server box (not computer box, literally the cardboard box that it ships in). I don't have one with me and I need it to be as exact as possible.

Yeah plenty of server here, about 70 of em in prod right now, but no boxes that they come in and I need the dimensions.

I've called two different support numbers by HP. The guys you call first don't sit with hardware around them of course and escalating my call would mean I actually have a technical problem.

I just bought a Dell 2u and the empty box is sitting right here in my office waiting to get recycled. It measures three feet wide exactly, 20 inches tall, and 4 feet 2 inches long. But what do you care what the box it shipped in size is?

I need to know because a remote office is shipping us a server on thursday and we'll be working on it overnight and then I'll be flying to a different office with it Friday morning and it needs to be up and running by Friday night, which means I need to check it on the plane with me and the restrictions are that it has to be less than 70lbs (which is ok) and the length+width+height of the box cannot exceed 64in.

All 3 put together? That would leave you SOL.

L+W+H makes you need something pretty tiny eh?

Yeah I'm pretty much screwed. This wouldnt be that big of a deal but its obviously time sensitive and my boss said straight up "Check with Delta and let me know if they'll let you check the server. You need to be willing to bet your job that you can make it to St Paul with that server" He said it joking, but not joking, you know that middleground that managers like to put themsevles in? Yeah...

Call sales. Give your account number or whatever lets them know you're a customer, and ask. They'll give you service if they think it'll mean future sales.

Call delta and ask them what their oversize item limit is and how much it costs.

Right, so my phone call before this thread is a lady saying that there's no way I can check any item unless its less than 64 linear inches. I call again and the lady is all "I don't know who you talked to but she must be new because you can check a forklift if you want, you just have to pay more."

I'm all set.

How can one check a forklift? I might do that just on principle some day. :)

No HP here but I do have a box from a PowerEdge 2950 (2U). 12.5"x25"x36".

BTW you're out of your mind checking a server.

Thats to check items. In this case, I'd be using the air cargo method. I remember doing a similar thing with surf boards to Costa Rica.

I'm going to put it to you this way............. there's no way they're going to let you check a 2U HP Server WITHOUT a shipping box, let alone WITH............. It's too wide and long to fit under the seat, and it's also the total wrong dimensions for the overhead bins.......... and HP tends to use rather LARGE shipping boxes for their servers, heck the 1U I just put in wouldn't fit.................

youre mistaking checking with carry on. checking it goes inside the plane belly. delta is also a cargo line, the passenger aspect came after.

all these specs are online. Width and height is standard BTW.

Depth would depend on the actually server and generation.

SPECS OF THE SIZE OF THE SHIPPING BOX, NOT THE SERVER ITSELF

Christ, doesn't anybody read anymore?
