I liked it, above average but not great. House of Cards falls into the great category for the acting by Spacey alone. And both are nowhere near Breaking Bad, combined.

blah blah

but wow, this show is actually good, and actually pretty realistic as far as real incarceration goes, anyone else check it out?

I can tell that you're lying because the show is actually terrible. For it to be good, it would need to be one of the following:

1. Well written
2. Interesting
3. Funny OR Dramatic
4. Carry a strong social statement
5. Well acted

I'm not sure what the worst part of it is, but having watched 8 or so episodes, it is either Russian Janeway or still talking about Jason Biggs jacking it in 2013. From there, the "main plot" (a.k.a. A girl goes to jail, then jail things happen) is just... poor.

Terrible yet you watched8 episodes? That doesn't make sense.

I enjoyed it and watched the whole first season. That makes sense.

It's very good to start, but then it just seems slightly better than mediocre by the end.

Still, I'm glad I watched it, despite not feeling that it was earth-shattering.

We do crazy things for the women in our lives. Don't we? She heard from a friend that it was amazing, so she roped me into watching it with her. I made it to episode 8-ish before I told her how I felt about it. She seemed to be enjoying it - I didn't want to ruin that for her.

Well, it is at least well-written and well acted. Some of these performances are quite good, actually. A lot of that has to do with great casting. These aren't hollywood lesbian fake hotties--these women actually look like they would be in prison.

It can be funny, decently funny at times. It wasn't dramatic enough for me to really care that much about these people, though.

definitely no real social statement, and as I mentioned earlier, not terribly interesting in the end. :\

Wow, Captain Janeway is awesome in this. Lol. She's the main reason I'm watching this now. They really wrote this heavily around her character. Great casting choice on their part.

I would say the episodes run a bit on the long side, and some episodes seem like they have more filler in them than others do. The writing is pretty tight, too, and the acting and casting is above average.

I would say I recommend it at this point, and I am pleasantly surprised to say so. I find at least 70% of most episodes hold my interest enough to recommend it to others.

Just know what you are getting into before you watch it. It's not for everyone. And the weird Christian theme running through it will probably be offensive to many Christians, too.

I still got a few episodes to go, and I'll chime in again when it's over.

No, and I don't plan to check it out. You must be watching just for all the locked up babes, which are at least twice as good looking as anything you'd normally find behind bars. Straight men and lesbos must have a lot of fantasies about women in jail I guess. I can't imagine any other good reason to watch it.

You've wildly strong opinions for a show you haven't watched.

Did someone hijack your account? :D

But yeah, Captain Janeway is the best in the show, I think.

That show sounds like the Quebec show Unité 9 on Radio-Canada (public network TV), which is now in its second season and has quite shocking moments, like the body search of an inmate returning to the women's penitentiary after a full mastectomy at 38 minutes in this season's premiere a couple of weeks ago. They made a special prosthesis that the actress wore for this scene and it's very realistic. Made quite an impression on the viewers and critics.

I have watched a few eps with the lady (she's gone through the entire season now), and I thought it was fairly good. I watched Weeds for several seasons, but found it largely insufferable after season one. Nancy Botwin was the most hideously annoying character of all time. Thankfully, OITNB is superior.

I'm a wild and wacky snake like that, don't you know.

And usually I read through a thread before going back and posting in it, might want to try it sometime.

I don't like the show. I had to force myself to watch the last couple episodes of the season and it's a big letdown. The way some of you cockgobblers talk about the show I was expecting much more.

The main character is so damn annoying that I end the season wishing she would have been shiv'd.

Kate Mulgrew and Michelle Hurst (Miss Claudette) were easily the best characters though. Everyone else is forgettable and contemptible. Especially Jason Biggs. That guy can't be in anything without his character devolving back into his American Pie character. Maybe that's just him and he's horrible.

The episode that really had me rolling my eyes was:

The one where Piper got tossed into the hole, or the SHU or whatever they call it. Solitary confinement. She was hallucinating and in soooo much distress. She'd been in there for less than 48 hours. I had some huge ass fucking eye rolls for that one. Ridiculous episode.

Yeah... but this is Piper we're talking about. Every time a few women start talking smack about her behind her back, she starts getting worried that someone is going to shiv her in her sleep or something. Wuss.

I really like it. Its not a show to watch with your kids and its not an emotional rollercoaster either where you think someone is in mortal danger. Those kinds of shows get old very fast. I like the acting, the content, the dialogue, and really really am enjoying season one. I just finished the chicken episode.

Is it like the first couple of seasons of Weeds? I loved Weeds at the beginning, but it crapped the bed after the first couple of seasons. I'd be willing to give this a shot if it recaptures the early awesome of Weeds.
