I finally bit the bullet. I've been talking shit about Vista for over a year now, yet truth be told I've never even used it. Of course, I was waiting for SP1 to drop, and I'm hoping that the DVD I get is already slipstreamed with the service pack (doubt it, because the crappy OS is sitting on store shelves for so long!)
My rig is an older 939-based Shuttle XPC, running an Opteron 165 at 2.2ghz. To prepare for Vista x64, I bought a new 500gb HD and 2GB of OCZ Platinum (the max amount my mainboard supports--only 2 dimm slots.) Obviously, I'm doing a clean install. I will have 64bit, signed drivers for all my hardware ready and waiting on a thumbdrive when I install. Anything else I need to do to prepare? Is there a common set of "first-time" tweaks that IT folks recommend you do after installing Windows? Like, how do I get rid of all the annoying security nag screens once and for all?
