So I'm trying to copy an image in photoshop...

I'm trying to copy an image that I have open in photoshop to the clipboard so I can paste it, but I cannot copy it. The option under the Edit menu is greyed out. Control-C doesn't work either. I don't understand why it would do that. I can copy in other applications (FireFox, MS Word). I tried merging the layers, but that didn't help. It's probably something really simple... any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

edit: of course right after I post I figure it out... I had to "select all" first... but i never had to do that before.. weeird
