So I'm thinking of getting a 3000VA UPS...

I'm also thinking about getting a Rack tower, is that the right term? What I need is some sort of tower that can store computers inside but comes with shelves since I don't own any 'server' computers. Can you use a rack mount for storing regular desktop PCs?

but before I get a 3000VA UPS, I'll be upgrading the outlets in the front of my room to connect to 30amp circuit breakers. The outlets with either consist of two nema 5-20R and two L5-30R on each side of the front of the room or just one L5-30R.

Yeah, I thought I'd share this, looking for comments, mostly suggestions or maybe people can post pics of servers in their rooms?

Why do you need that much power in your room?

If you really have that many mission critical machines you should look into a colo.

Calculate the amount of power you need per rack.
Use 220v, 208 if you have access. Less heat, more power.
As far as racks, if you're not using rack mount gear then just get a metal shelfing system from home depot....the ones with four corner posts to support the weight.

Yes, they sell shelves (actualy, they tend to not be full shelves, you are looking for ones that are open in the center, not the ones for storing small parts).

A four-post rack is going to run you at LEAST $300, unless you find a great deal.

I'm using an APC SmartUPS 3000VA rack mount (and another 2000 va UPS) at home. I didn't bother to rack mount it though. It's only running on a 20amp circuit, since my main concern was runtime, not VA.

Those 3000's are pretty powerful. We run several severs off just one, and we have 3.

And you can buy sliding shelves from APC. Their strong enough to hold up most any computer, and fit right into the rack. Only about 1u tall.
