So I'm starting my PSP experience sort of late...

About 2 years ago I made a thread about PSP gaming in anticipation of a trip, but that trip got canceled. Now it's on again; I leave tomorrow.

In anticipation of some boring nights I decided to go ahead and buy a PSP to distract me. From the prices I found it almost looks like the PSP is being closed out: I got the MLB 11 and GT bundle at Best Buy for $99.

The I headed over to gamestop and checked out their selection, and they are pretty much blowing everything used out. I got (all for $5 or less):

Tomb Raider: Anniversary
Tiger Woods 2007
FF 7:Crisis Core
Ridge Racer
F1 2009

I think I'm pretty set for a few weeks, but are there any great PSP games out there I should add? I've got a few hours to kill before I leave tomorrow, and I'm pretty sure this could be the only extended PSP stretch of my life.

As far as the interlacing issue goes: I was worried, but after trying all the games I couldn't really notice it except for on GT. When I played that one there were some occasional white lines accross the track.

Yeah, they had both of those pretty cheap too.

Maybe I should pick those up.

Looking for PSP games? Here's some to try

-God of War: Chains of Olympus
-Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception... probably the best portable flight sim ever.
-Disgaea 1 & 2 if you like tactical RPGs
-Daxter
-LittleBigPlanet
-Mod-nation Racers
-Jeanne D'Arc ... though I prefer Disgaea over it for TRPG fans.
-Sega Genesis Collection ... a must have
-Valkyria Chronicles II
-LocoRoco
-Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
-Patapon... rhythm games aren't my thing but I can see why it's popular

Ace Combat X? Hmm, that sounds interesting.

They had the Sega genesis collection for like $1. Why didn't I just pick it up? I'll definitely hav to go back no.

Ok, so I played around with it a little more.

Really nice that I was able to log in with my PSN name and download the free PSP games. Not having to use the UMD should save battery for long plane/train rides.

Killzone's almost done. As for the second one...

I like a good arcade cart racer (LOVED Mariokart), so Super mod racers might be a good one for me.

But maybe I should try Pursuit Force, even though it was released like 5 years earlier.

Has anyone tried both? I'm not really interested in Little Big Planet.

So I had about 2 weeks to play with the 3000, and imo it's a pretty awesome portable gamer.

I didn't have any issues with the screen, but I've never played the previous ones so I have nothing to complare it to. I got almost no artifacts (none in most games); maybe Sony has improved the screen software somehow?

The extended battery is a must.

FF7: Crisis Core has to the the biggest budget portable game ever. The production values of this game are off the charts in every way. I was hoping for party based combat, but I learned to like what the game gave. Something about the story really got to me as well.

For long stretches without plugging in - old games on the memory stick ftw. I played the original Tomb Raider for at least 3 hours, and the battery went from 100% to 85%.

I'll be trolling gaming stores for used UMDs for a while.

Was that $99 deal a sale price that's over now, or something that might still be available ?

Ahem. You're willing to pay $99 for a handheld you don't think there are any good games for?

I'm pretty sure that deal is long since over, but if you're patient I'm sure you'll be able to find a similar deal before the year is out. You can also get used PSPs for $100 or less.

I'm not sure. I went to my local Best Buy and was standing in the PSP aisle when a guy came over and asked to help me. He said "we have a great deal on a combo package" and walked me over to a sale section.

I actually was considering a PSP go because they were being liquidated, but I'm really glad I didn't because the local Gamestops have tons of cheap used UMDs.

Ironically the two included games were the ones I played the least.

I think my favorite games on the PSP have been "Lumines" (I & II), "Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X" and "Mega Man: Powered Up!". Lumines is probably my favorite puzzle game of all time, and I've spent a ridiculous number of hours playing it. The two Mega Man games are remakes of Mega Man X and Mega Man 1 (respectively) in 3D. The games suffer from a little bit of a slowdown at times, which is probably their only fault.

Yea, $99 is better than $129. in any case I found out Kmart is clearancing some psp bundles for $90 and my grandaughter got a silver one with Ratchet and Clank.

She's happy. I picked up a Rock Band bundle but I'd rather have the green Metal Gear Solid one.

btw, I still dont think there's enough games, but it's pretty cool for $90.

It is cool; I'm really glad I bought it.

Basically a portable PS2, with some inherent limitations.

Playing the Tiger Woods game was pretty much identical to the 2003-2005 version on PS2.

The original puzzle quest alone will probably keep you entertained throughout the whole trip.

Well, this kind of sucks..instead of including the movie "School of Rock" in the psp Rock Band bundle box, there's a download voucher..which of course is expired ?

Why put a time limit on the voucher ? And the Echocrome voucher in the Ratchet & Clank bundle is also expired.

Havent actually tried to use the codes yet, anyone know if they'll still work ? Also, if the movie one doesn't work, I'm hoping Sony will replace it somehow, otherwise they can have a couple more psp bundles for their refurbished store stock..
