to create a "blueprint" for the fabric cuts? i.e. I create a 3D shape and then tell the program to flatten (while retaining surface area and whatnot) it out into 2D so I can cut it from the fabric and fold/manipulate it back into the original form.

Here's a pic to satiate those of you who wouldn't help without it. Then again, those who could help me probably wouldn't require a pic anyway.

do you have a specific design in mind? it might be in your best interest to go to a fabric store and find a pattern you can use as a base and then alter for what you neeed to do.

I use Solid Edge at work. You can make one out of sheetmetal then make a flat pattern out of it... Solid Edge is like a million dollars a seat though, and it's tough to find illegally too.

Sewing a plush toy as a present? That's strange. I don't even know what to say.

Yeah, there's a certain type of bear that I want to make.

Hmm, make a burlap Suit Jacket.
I'm not making the thing out of burlap. Burlap is just cheaper to experiment on, and if I find the right shape, then I can use that as a template on the actual fabric.

It's obvious that at best, he's extremly "metro."

Sewing a stuffed animal is beyond metro. It's just creepy. And strange. Even gay guys don't sew.

The only acceptable sewing for a man to do is sewing his own stomach back together using a mirror while in enemy territory.

It's obvious I'm not gay (bisexuality hasn't been ruled out but I think I can safely say that I'm not bisexual). She doesn't want me to spend a lot of money, I don't want to spend a lot of money, and I figured something "thoughtful" would score me a lot of points.

Besides, even if she doesn't like it, I can take it back (it's fvcking Kon from Bleach).
