So I'm reading a post by Evadman, and a question about electricity and water develops

Below is the original post by Evadman concerning a repost. So I read the part:

To Repent, You Must:

[ ] Give up your AOL/Euronet/MSN/Planet Internet account
[ ] Bust up your modem with a hammer and eat it
[ ] Jump into a bathtub while holding your monitor
...

And I'm thinking, hmmm always wondered what happens if you jump into a bathtub while electric current is in there. Now we all know monitors, well at least CRTs, have very high voltages, but what about regular 120V house current? Is that enough to kill you? If so, what happens? Does your heart stop? Breathing stop?

Yeah and please spare me the "Why don't you go and try it" posts that I know some of you less than apelike mentality nefs will inevitably come up with.

here's the post by Evadman, heh funny stuff too:

ok let's try it, I bash you over the head, throw you in the tub, followed by a hairdryer. But then how do I know if your death is caused by the 'lectricity or the cracked skull?

What would happen is that you would blow a fuse, if you hotwire it, the current will take the easiest path, so he wouldn't die from electrocution...

Snapit: What do you mean by hotwire it? I can just take his car keys after bashing him.

I have been told 100mA through the arms can be fatal, regardless of voltage, its the current that does the damage.

the resistance of the human body varies from 1kOhm to 20kOhm depending on location. V=IR, V=100mA x 10kOhm = 1000 volts, CRT's can be driven by voltages as high as 32kV (35inch TV), but you probably wouldnt be killed by an AC main (120V)

Edit: why dont you try it and let me know how it goes? :)

2nd Edit: Google is your friend :)

I am a TV repair tech :) i've personally been shocked by about 10kV between my index finger & thumb... nasty burn & scared me sh!tless... I know a tech who was hit by full anode voltage (~30kV) he was knocked out cold for approx 30 minutes :)

o yea, plenty of safety procedures, i deal with ~30kV all day long every day. Accidents happen, maybe its only 1 in 5000 TV's, but they do happen :)
