Why do you play Blackjack? You know the odds are against you, right?
Lol...
because there are soooo many other games that are not?
First of all, it's 100% stupid to gamble on anything where the odds are against you and there's nothing you can do about it. Secondly, play poker if you want to win. Might pay to learn the game first.
You mean casino games are not made to let the player win money on a regular basis?
Play poker at a casino and the house takes a rake on every hand. That's money even less deserved than when they whip your arse at BlackJack.
I can't speak for Vegas casinos, but at the Indian ones in California when I win at pot at the hold em table the dealer doesn't touch the chips. Where do they get their cut there? I've always wondered. I always tip the dealer when I win a nice pot, never seen them take chips on their own though.
It's interesting to me that you're willing to play for money at a casino (whose lowest tables are often still at least $1 big blinds), without even knowing enough to understand rake structure. Want to play heads up for your roll?
Again, when I'm at the casino I play at and I win a hand I take the chips. The dealer never touchs them, unless they have some magic slight of hand and I don't notice it. Where's this rake coming from? I know what rakes are, but when my hands are the only hands touching the chips where is the house getting this cut from?
*edit*
maybe I need to pay closer attention next time, they probably are grabbing them hella quick and I'm just not paying close enough attention lol.
You definitely aren't paying close enough attention. Why would casinos even have poker if they aren't taking a cut?
Pre-flop the dealer will take the rake amount, usually $3-4 and place it into a slot next to his chip tray. After the first betting round is completed, if there is a flop, the dealer will pull a little handle thing and the chips will drop into a bin. Some older poker tables have only a slot and the dealer will manually place the rake amount into the slot.
In some casinos there is a "no flop no drop" policy. What this means is if there is no flop (ie, someone raises and everyone folds) the winner of the pot gets to collect the who amount.
A good dealer will handle all this seamlessly, so the fact that you haven't noticed isn't that big of a surprise.
