there's one open seat right next to me, a lady comes up and wanted to play. I'm all the way on the right end one, the dealer asks if I'll move down to let her have my seat. I don't understand why he's asking because there's a seat open. But I'm doing horribly so I move seats and she sits down.

this bitch ass bitch proceeds to hit 2 21's in a row and win the next 2 with a 19/20. I mumbled some explicit words and get up to leave. I had been getting my ass handed to me in that seat for about 20 straight minutes.

has anyone else ever had a BJ dealer ask you to move seats?fucking dealer lol I'm pissed.

I would have said "no" TBH. After many, many hours at the BJ table, one thing I know is to never let someone have your seat!

Did he ask you to move or ask if you wanted to move? Perhaps he was just trying to give you the option of changing seats before new blood came in and mixed up the mojo.

he asked, it wasn't like "move your fucking ass or else!" I've never been asked to move before so it kind of caught me off guard.

and to GodlessAstronomer I play because it's fun and I generally do okay at it, much better odds than those blasted fucking video slot machines they have. I wanted to play Hold 'Em but every table was full and nobody was leaving. What game at a Casino will have odds that are for me?

First of all, it's 100% stupid to gamble on anything where the odds are against you and there's nothing you can do about it. Secondly, play poker if you want to win. Might pay to learn the game first.

You got some shiatty luck but the hands she got wouldn't have been dealt to you anyway. Once someone comes in or leaves, every card from there on out is different than what it would have been if she hadn't come along. So, it sucks but there's not much you can do - her coming to the table could have just as easily put you onto a nice winning streak...

huh? If she had sat where the dealer asked me to move, I would have at least gotten the first 21 she got. After that depending on how she hit or folded I might or might not have won the others. I would have been happy with one natural 21 the way the cards were treating me that night :) And I probably would have gotten all 4 hands she did, because everybody would have played the hands I had the same way I did. Oh well it's done :)

Blackjack is the only house game that, if played correctly (meaning knowing basic strategy in addition to advanced card counting methodology), can have a player advantage. The problem is that most players do not have the ability to execute an advanced counting method because of a) the natural complexity of the counting method, b) the speed of the game and, c) the endless distractions surrounding a blackjack table.

Also, many casinos now have switched to an "endless shuffling machine" which negates a players ability to count.

First of all, it's 100% stupid to gamble on anything where the odds are against you and there's nothing you can do about it. Secondly, play poker if you want to win. Might pay to learn the game first.

You mean casino games are not made to let the player win money on a regular basis?

Play poker at a casino and the house takes a rake on every hand. That's money even less deserved than when they whip your arse at BlackJack.

I don't see anything wrong with giving an instutition a cut of the money I win from less skilled players for providing a place to play and gathering the fish together.

I can't speak for Vegas casinos, but at the Indian ones in California when I win at pot at the hold em table the dealer doesn't touch the chips. Where do they get their cut there? I've always wondered. I always tip the dealer when I win a nice pot, never seen them take chips on their own though.

You're not paying attention then. They usually take the rake after the first round of betting.

It's interesting to me that you're willing to play for money at a casino (whose lowest tables are often still at least $1 big blinds), without even knowing enough to understand rake structure. Want to play heads up for your roll?

Again, when I'm at the casino I play at and I win a hand I take the chips. The dealer never touchs them, unless they have some magic slight of hand and I don't notice it. Where's this rake coming from? I know what rakes are, but when my hands are the only hands touching the chips where is the house getting this cut from?

*edit*
maybe I need to pay closer attention next time, they probably are grabbing them hella quick and I'm just not paying close enough attention lol.

Pay closer attention next time. They take a rake for every hand played at cash games.

You definitely aren't paying close enough attention. Why would casinos even have poker if they aren't taking a cut?

Pre-flop the dealer will take the rake amount, usually $3-4 and place it into a slot next to his chip tray. After the first betting round is completed, if there is a flop, the dealer will pull a little handle thing and the chips will drop into a bin. Some older poker tables have only a slot and the dealer will manually place the rake amount into the slot.

In some casinos there is a "no flop no drop" policy. What this means is if there is no flop (ie, someone raises and everyone folds) the winner of the pot gets to collect the who amount.

A good dealer will handle all this seamlessly, so the fact that you haven't noticed isn't that big of a surprise.

Blackjack has the smallest house odds of any game in the room. You're not going to find something where the odds are in your favor, that's why it's gambling. Poker is a great game and I personally play quite a bit, but to say you play it if you want to win is absurd. You can get taken in poker just as easily as in blackjack or any other game. Also, the problem with poker is that it all comes down to how much your money means to you. The game can become very hard if you're at a table with people who flat out don't care about losing a few thousand dollars.

It's funny, I play a lot of Poker and I know what raking is, but you're 100% right I've never noticed it. Silly me thinking the Indian Casinos were being nice lol. I'm going to watch closely next time I go so I can see them stealing my chips. And to think I tip them when I win a decent pot baaah! lol
