So I'm no longer covered by any health/dental/vision insurance...

My only pair of glasses took a ~230 foot fall while I was climbing a bit under a year ago, and I never managed to find them (not that they'd be in one piece anyways). I'm also down to my last pair of contacts, which are really on their last legs also.

To make matters worse, I found out that my all my health insurance stuff ended at the start of this month.

So I need to get new eye stuff... but I don't know my perscription info; nor have I had an eye checkup in the better part of 2 years.

Soo...

Firstly, anybody know an easy way for me to get my hands on my perscription, and then a way to get contacts without a current perscription?

Secondly, anyone know the approximate cost of an eye exam without insurance?

Thirdly, anyone know the approximate cost of insurance?

Unfortunately I'm a single guy living paycheck to paycheck, so I'm kind of worried about whether or not I'll be able to afford insurance.

An eye exam is usually around $35 around these parts. Put the glasses on a credit card. Dont spend more than $150 and youll be fine.

Ermm, glasses exam is like 40 bucks, contacts is 70. Just get a new perscription already. Remember, eyes are a part of you that don't heal themselves.

Thread in Hot Deals about cheap prescription glasses...
Just find the cheapest optometrist in town, get your prescription, and use someone like 19 dollar eyeglasses.com

Maybe its gone up to $70. I havent needed one since spending $3,400 on lasik back in 2002.

20/15 roxors!

I got as good a deal locally as I could have online, for my particular needs. Exam was $55.00 at Sears. They may still be having the same sale, where they sell you the lens & frame for $129.00 for any frame valued up to $150.00. Penneys had the same sale, but for only $99.00! I couldn't use Penneys because they don't sell safety glasses.

I prefer to have the exam at the same place that's making the glasses. That way, if the order is screwed up, they can hash it out between themselves right there. No running back to the Optometrist who will invariably point back at the Optician.

Most people don't have eye coverage. Just bite the bullet and buy new ones like the rest of the public.

I needed a new pair quick, so I went to wal-mart and got an eye exam, frames and fully loaded lenses for umm like $250 out the door.
