because its hard to tell what you're going to get. a guitar is something i would want to see and play before buying.

Well I've tried out theese models before. What Im doing though, Is I only buy the guitars with good quality pictures, and pictures showing all the damage(if any to the guitar). If the picture shows a nice finish an no scratches it probably means the owner was carefull with it. On the other hand I found one missing a control knob and a superman sticker on the back. That tells me the dude probably didnt really care for the guitar much and there is probably more damage.

I've purchased two guitars on ebay, and actually my first guitar was also my first ebay purchase and both came flawless and as advertised, even the one that shipped without a case!

I've bought two from ebay and they've both served me quite well, and at a decent price. Naturally, YMMV.

True, But I think what pontifex is saying is that you never know you will like it until you feel it in your hands. kind of like a pair of shoes.

I don't get that either. Ebay is fine for guitars.

If you try out a guitar at a local store, then buy it online for a LOT less, there's nothing wrong with that. I do it all the time.

I bought 3 guitars off Ebay...Jackson Performer, Jackson RR5 and a Les Paul SG Epiphone Custom....not a problem with any of them and 2 were from the same guitar dealer

I've had friends who got AMAZING guitar deals on ebay. Like sick $1000 guitars for $600 with amps and pedals worth a combined $2000+.
It's all about finding the auctions that aren't listed well.

I purchased my first and only bass guitar off eBay and an amp too. Was very pleased with it!
