So I'm looking at speakers with freaking laser beams attached to their heads

Heh. It's a geeky marketing appeal. The speakers come with a laser pointer that you snap into the tweater area that you use to "aim" the speakers at your seating areas. Not the reason I'm considering the speakers, but I thought it was a geeky, creative touch.

I'm putting an in-wall setup HT setup as we re-do our basement. Looking at grabbing these for my fronts and the in-ceiling ones to put in the surrounds.

Couldn't you used a laser pointer and a holder? Put the pointer where you want the sound to ends up and point it at the speaker.

I admit, for sheer geekiness, the laser speakers would be great.

Yes you can do it with your own laser. I did it when I set my my speakers.

I'm not sure if what you're saying would do the same thing. How can you tell when you have the speaker lined up on-axis?

It must suck to be you, because then there's only ONE precise spot that you'll have to position your head to hear the sonic nuances of everything you are listening to. I envy your hearing ability. :p

All your bass are belong to me!

FWIW, I'm kind of scrapping the in-wall idea. I feel like they compromise too much quality for the sake of space conservation. I demo'd about 15 pairs ranging from $200 a set to to $1000 a set.

My favorite were an $800 set of Definitives, followed by a $300 set of Elan's. Everything else was either way too bright (think Klipsch) and/or lacking the warmth that I'm used to.

I wish I had a B&W dealer around me to demo some of their stuff.

Improving your room will provide a far greater gain then using a laser pointer to aim your tweeter "that much more" precisely, but I digress. It's not a bad thing.
