Correct, I'm actually probably closer to 3 blocks away.

Any recommendations for quality steakhouses within walking distance of this area? Benn there and done that on Ruth's Chris/Morton's so definitely looking for a local non-chain. Also...who's got the best slices around here?

Getting ready to head out for the day...got the camera if I see anyone interesting but don't have the sync cable to post it if I do.

Check out Keene's Steakhouse.
In Midtown, meh, nothing special for pizza, just grab a slice at whatever little place you see, they're all pretty much the same. Or you could check out Two Boots in the Grand Central food court, they make interesting Louisiana/NY pizza. If you want super-cheap (although I doubt it based off your room rate ;)), there's a stand on 41st and 9th ave (next to the soup kitchen/homeless shelter ;)) that has a slice and a soda for $1.50. There's also a Tony Luke's down the street if you feel like a cheesesteak.

you believe there are a bunch of foreign dignitaries in your hotel...

And, your nic has the word "assassin" in it...

 Secret Security has been posted outside your hotel room.

Never really thought about it like that but now that you mention that, it does seem a little crazy. I promise to be a good little SoulAssassin this week. I've been using this nic for probably 13 or 14 years so it's nothing new and all they would have to do it get with the US Marshals and go back to around '94 to figure out who I am (long long story ;) ). Secret Service can come hang out if they want...just need to bring some girls and a bottle of vodka. :)

The Crab House on Vernon Blvd. in Long Island City offers a free shuttle to & from Manhattan. They have decent seafood, but their double cut chops & porterhouses are huge. :)

I'm not sure what you consider "walking distance". I like Gallagher's the best, but it is on 52nd near Broadway. Peter Luger's is considered by most to be the best (the one time I went I really liked it as well), but it is in Brooklyn. Personally, I would walk to Gallagher's from where you are. If you decide to go to Peter Luger's, bring cash as they do not accept credit cards.

I usually stay at the Palace Hotel when I'm in NYC (typically for investment conferences). I worked in NYC for a couple of years and I'll either walk or cab to most places.

Oh and just to make the situation all that more interesting...I'm posting this from a room containing critical infrastructure to the city.

ugh. I hate it when Bush comes to NYC.

getting thousands of soldiers killed, giving money away to oil companies, and increasing our national debts are all things I can forgive... but these traffic jams?! fvck that. ;)

He won't be going there. When he went to the Citadel (and thats where everyone loves him) there was a copter and 2 different limos that he could be getting in on. Plus snipers on all the towers and the whole campus got shut down and everyone in there searched. Don't worry about his security, I sure don't.
