They don't work quite that well. The one I used didn't "cut" it into sections, just made groves, so I still had to cut them. My advice is to get a frying pan and use a pizza cutter to cut them.

Exactly what I was going to say

Do you really need a whole appliance for quesadillas? A plain old skillet seems to work just as well...

Frying pan, two tortillas, grated cheese... why the hell would you buy a quesadilla maker to put those things together?

You can't make real hearty quesadillas with that. Use a skillet =) A waffle maker would be more useful.. for those that must have squares in their waffles ;)

But it's not even about being lazy. This appliance doesn't even make the job easier!

Like others have mentioned, use a frying pan, but I'll add a cast iron bacon press.

I have a grilled cheese maker that works the same way. While you do have to cut/tear each piece, if you want them sealed then it's the way to go.

I saw a few of those at Linens N Things.. at first I thought how cool, then realized how pointless it seems..

That said, here's one of my favorite quesadilla receipes:

large flour tortilla top & bottom
thin layer of shredded mexican cheese
layer of chipotle refried beans (I don't know the brand name, Food Lion sells it)
tyson pre-cooked grilled southwest flavor chicken strips (usually tear them up a little smaller by hand)
bacon bits (lightly sprinkled)
salsa (again I can't remember the brand name.. Food Lion sells it in their "Mexico" isle)
then a lot more shredded cheese
add peppers to your liking

it's MMM MMM GOOD

I agree with most here, a friend gave me that exact gizmo as a gift and it's only good for making toasted tortilla's. A frying pan works better, or should i say frying pan works

a pan is a lot easier to clean than a maker also. With the maker you can't put it in the dishwasher or submerge it in the sink to clean it. Complete PITA. That is why the Quesadilla maker, sandwhich maker, electric griddle, etc all sit collecting dust while the pans get constant use. MUCH easier to clean up when your done.

skillet ftw.

unless you have kids. I'd much rather a little kid try to make themselves a quesadilla in a something like a quesadilla maker than screw around on a stove.

As others have said, an ordinary frying pan makes an excellent quesadilla. A simple trick is rather than using a top tortilla and a bottom tortilla use a single tortilla and just fold it over like an omelet. It's less messy, easier to work with and it comes out exactly the same.
