So I'm going to Salt Lake City next weekend ...

October 30th I am going on my first business trip! I have been here for 6 weeks and they are sending me to Salt Lake City to attend some Landscape Seminar. Since the area of the project I am going to be programming on deals with Landscape Architecutural design, my office-mate and I are going to go to Utah.

So what exactly is there to do there? During the day we have to go to conferences and what not, but at night we can do as we please 🙂. So what places are hot spots at night? We are both early 20's so we are down to party. Also any must eat food places? Thanks!

There are a couple nice places downtown, go to Squatters and get some Polygamy Porter🙂 Banana Joe's is a cool place, haven't been there in a couple of months so I can't say how it is now.

If you like Thai food, there's a place called Lemongrass. I went there once and it was the first time I've ever had Thai food. It was ok, I guess. I'm certainly no connoisseur.

If you're into sports bars, there's always Port 'o Call (a private club for members) <- we have to say that in Utah.

Party? Where? Salt Lake City? Buwwhaahaahaahaahaa! Oh, that's a good one.

If you can find a Ruby River steakhouse, I'd highly recommend it. But that's just me.

Yeah, if your stuck in SLC, go to Port o Call.

Otherwise, get your ass up to Park City Main Street and go to Harry-O's. Much better night life in PC, and it's only 30 mins from SLC.

Lemongrass is awesome Thai. If you're interested in home-style thai food, there's a place in Provo by BYU called "Thai Ruby" that is the best Thai food I've ever had.

Also, if you like seafood, the only place to eat it is the Market Street Grill.

Yeah, but the food in PC sucks. I have yet to eat somewhere that had decent food.

Well, there is good food there, but it's $$$ as hell, like Wahso.

Have you eaten at Tex Reds there? I thought it was good.

Yea Port o Call is a good bar also. I've had good times there.
Lumpys isn't bad either. If your a Utah Ute fan.

Looks like all the Salt Lake people are crawling out of the woodwork....

If you're into the bar/meat market/clubbing/hotties (who isn't?) scene then Port O Call is a good place. If you're looking for a casual, relaxed, quieter, little older/dressed up place, I like the Red Door Martini Lounge.

Pub food downtown, I'm partial to Red Rock and Squatters. If you're on a per diem and food money is no object, the Metropolitan. We did New Years there and it was a blast, the ambiance is incredible, the food was great, and the service is excellent.

As far as what there is to do? Nothing - It's Utah - go to church! 🙂

Actually if you're in to the outdoors, there's plenty of canyons/ski resorts to go up. 2 are within 30 to 40 minutes of downtown SLC (Big and Little Cottonwoods). Park City is just 40 to 45 minutes away. Assuming everything isn't covered in snow, it's a great place to hike, walk around, and get some nice clean mountain air.

Park City has some shopping, both downtown on Main St. and the outlet malls right off the freeway exit. Downtown has the Gateway Mall, which is pretty nice, and Crossroads, which is the suck.

Other than that....do you have a Replay? Because that's what I do most of the time...sit home with the wife, watch TV and surf. Come on over....it's a raging time! 🙂

I would suggest you familiarize yourself with Utah's Liquor laws so that you aren't totally shocked when you get here:

http://www.alcbev.state.ut.us/...ffecting_visitors.html

Key items: Private clubs (entrance fee required by state law) and state owned liquor stores are the only place you can buy alcohol above 3.2% without purchasing food (ie a restaruant, where drinks are sold only after purchasing food).

Dance clubs, some are private clubs, some are dry. The only good ones are private clubs, expect to pay around $12 for a 2 week temp. membership. Most private clubs have dancing, some are more focused on it. All clubs are required by law to close at 1:00am.

You can find a list of "city" activities and entertainment in the valley by consulting the following site:

http://www.slweekly.com/

If you have the daylight I suggest a drive into the canyons, Utah's natural beauty is astounding.
