So my work is shipping me down to Merrit Island later this month from Toronto, I've only been to the states once before to Baltimore last year, and now this.

I've got my passport ready to go, flight isn't booked or anything, any advice from Florida people as to things to avoid / places to see? I'll be there for a Wednesday through Friday.

Don't wear sandals with heel straps or that little strap that goes over your big toe. Since you'll be on the water you actually have some options for fun. Try and get to the beach. Relax and enjoy it. This weekend the waves won't be anything big over there so do what you can to take full advantage of the water. Bring some sunscreen. You're right next to Kennedy Space Center man, might as well stop in and see the cool stuff NASA has. It's actually very interesting. Don't forget to eat as much seafood as you can! You'll find Ron Jon surf shop south of where you are at, so see about heading down there if you have a rental car.

Enjoy!

OP, you're only going to be in Florida for 3 days? If so you won't really have time to do very much. I live near Orlando and most of the "fun" stuff to do is in south-west Orlando (Disney, Universal, etc.)

If you trully only have 3 days (when are you going to work?) try the Kenedy Space Center ... and if you want to try a GOOD beach avoid Cocoa ... go to Playalinda Beach. Google it ...

mmm, my old stomping grounds. I lived in Merritt Island from 2-12 years old and then 12-21 in Cocoa Beach (family still there).

Suggestions:

-The beaches there have gone to crap from the old days (pumping sand into the beaches made it gross and the waves break worse than before). Excellent suggestion for Playalinda, what a great area to explore if you haven't been there. You will have to check that it is open first, it closes around launch times and other various security reasons. The nature reserve over there is AWESOME! You are pretty much %100 going to see an aligator over there (you can see them from your car, dont worry).
-KSC is pretty cool.
-Sebastian inlet is a nice place.
-If you are stuck in Merritt Island, im sorry, as that town sucks, not as bad as cocoa or PSJ but its lame.
-If you fish the indian, banana, and st johns river are great fishing (the flats are sick for red drum)
-There are aligator farms if you go toward central florida, they are kind of old, but still pretty damn fun.
-Airboat rides on the st johns river.

I sometimes miss living in cocoa beach, but then i read about the job market over there.
