You also might want to check out the rest of that forum on cigars and how to buy them. DO NOT buy cigars from the locals, not only will you not get a receipt (which you will need if you wish to take them out of the country), but they're probably junk (counterfeit or they stole the stuff the factory tosses out).

Photocopy your Drivers license, your health care card, and your birth certificate. That way if you lose your wallet & passport you still have something.

So one of your friendly neighbours up here is going to Cuba on the 24th for a week, tryp Cayacoco or something.
I'm getting my passport on the 12th, I haven't left Canada in my 21 years here, I'm wondering what I should expect going down south? I'd love to stop in the states but I don't think it's happening.
Thanks guys, Rob.

AFAIK, there are no flights from the US to cuba. you have to go to Mexico or Canada then to cuba.

oh man americans are so paranoid about cuba. it's just as safe, if not safer than mexico(definately safer than border towns). just be careful, don't carry all of your cash and be friendly. you'll find most cubans are pretty hospitable.

What about leaving small items for the workers at the resort? I've heard you are supposed to leave soaps or something for them in replace of a tip?
"...this old complex which needs major repairs starting from the rooms, grounds need better up keep and the pools needs work to be done, many tiles missing and lets not forget the murky colour of the water. By the looks of the colour they put chemicals once per week.
Most important is the food, if you want to lose weight you are at the right place, the food in the buffet was terrible along with the flying birds looking for food. Everybody we meet at the hotel said they same thing about the food. They must hire a new chef if they want to stay in business because at this rate they will not last.
We all wondered why they consider this hotel to be a 4 star, under my books it is a 3..."
"...We just spent a week at Tryp Cayo Coco. I honestly don't know how this facility rates a four star rating. The hotel rooms are just too rough and shabby. Linens & towels are worn and stained. The beds are uncomfortable to say the least. The resort itself is pretty and the beach is outstanding, but you still have to be in the room to sleep and spend time in there. It reminded me of the rental cottages I have booked over the years, but quite frankly they were more well cared for and comfortable then the room we had...VIP is a joke. Nothing at all in the brochure was in our room. We had to ask for everything and still didn't by weeks end receive some of the items. Not sure what the deluxe bathroom amenities were, didn't bother asking. ..I'm pretty sure the sheets were never changed and we had the same beach towels for the whole week. If you want something, it's less aggravation to go get it yourself."
"...Mosquitos are a big problem, take lots of bug spray with you. A truck comes around morning and night spraying billows of blue smoke that completely engulfs the resort, head inside, left some of my clothes outside on the patio and they were stiff as a board from it. They told us it was oil, but it sure smells like insecticide. All in all, we made the best of the vacation but felt the VIP/OceanView was money thrown down the drain..."
"...had to return to the main desk for unprogrammed keys, missing towels . . . ...The second of our 3 parties was "not booked" . . . main desk wanted to have her stay with complete strangers until a room came up . . . after some discussion a room was found . . . unprogrammed key was given . . . return to main desk . . . towels missing . . . return to main desk ... Luggage was "finally" delivered to the rooms . . . we could have brought them ourselves far faster and sooner but nonetheless they arrived .

Here's what Skoorb had to say, if you believe him: "Fvcking communists". Of course that was 4 years ago that he visited.Originally posted by: Sabot

I'm going to Cancun in August. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Not sure what to expect, but I'll certainly pack light and not check anything I care about.
