So one of your friendly neighbours up here is going to Cuba on the 24th for a week, tryp Cayacoco or something.

I'm getting my passport on the 12th, I haven't left Canada in my 21 years here, I'm wondering what I should expect going down south? I'd love to stop in the states but I don't think it's happening.

Thanks guys, Rob.

Edit - This is the place!

Cuban beaches are amazing. I would love to live there and just scuba every chance I had.

Apparently this is the place to go, her friends just came back from there. We're just staying in some resort, gonna get hamm'd all week that's about it, no exploring really.

Costing an arm and a leg...

Photocopy your Drivers license, your health care card, and your birth certificate. That way if you lose your wallet & passport you still have something.

if you are staying on a resort, bring stuff like sunscreen and film and things you might have planned on buying there, because the prices will be jacked up if it's like other resort places. don't stray off the beaten path. some of my relatives went there a couple months back and said it was great. have fun!

oh man americans are so paranoid about cuba. it's just as safe, if not safer than mexico(definately safer than border towns). just be careful, don't carry all of your cash and be friendly. you'll find most cubans are pretty hospitable.

Here's a thread from RFD .

See the stuff about bringing things for the locals? Get $50 and go to a dollar shop.

If you get a chance go Scuba diving. The guys I worked with down there went diving all the time and they said the diving sites are some of the least used in the world. Oh yeah, don't mess with the iguanas there, you can get a huge fine for even looking at them funny.

Here's another thread

You also might want to check out the rest of that forum on cigars and how to buy them. DO NOT buy cigars from the locals, not only will you not get a receipt (which you will need if you wish to take them out of the country), but they're probably junk (counterfeit or they stole the stuff the factory tosses out).
