So I'm going to be in Memphis tomorrow...

So I'm on vacation with my girlfriend in Mississippi (don't ask, just go with it). Tomorrow (Wednesday, August 9th) we'll be spending a full day in Memphis, TN before catching a flight on Thursday to destinations beyond.

I've read a little about Beale Street and some place called the Pink Palace, not to mention Graceland.

My main question is this: We are young and mobile, and given a single day, what does someone intimate with Memphis recommend we do to see/explore/experience the city and have fun?

Many thanks.

Beale street is good. Lots of bars, restuarants and if you like the blues, some of the best can be found there.
Like you said, there is always Graceland. If you're fond of the King, it is worth the money and time.
You can also take a 30 minute trip back into Mississippi down to Tunica where they have about 7 or 8 good sized casinos.

laugh at the funny-looking white people with their pube mustaches, tank tops, and bad haircuts.

It's gonna be really hot. Its been over a 100 every day for about a week. Heat index tommorow around 105.

I'm guessing that you mean the Peabody Hotel? Their Web site states, "At 11 AM and again at 5 PM, the red carpet is rolled out and The Peabody Ducks march to the tune of John Philip Sousa's ?King Cotton March? before a crowd of amazed and delighted guests."

I suppose that I could stand to be amazed AND delighted. 🙂

My fiance and I go to Memphis alot, when we go we usually go to Beale Street. It is fun place to be if you are young and like blues, it also has good places to eat. Rendezvous is a good place to eat. When we do go to Beale Street we usually also go to A. Schwab, it is a dry good store that has been around since 1876. We also like to go to The Police Museum, it is also on Beale Street. If you can go to the Peabody to see the ducks march, I prefer seeing them coming down at 11:00. I really enjoy the carriage rides for the hour tour they take you to a couple of parks, and they also take to downtown Memphis, it is well worth the money.

Listen to this guy. 😉

Tunica is a good suggestion as well and the food is pretty good. LB's Steakhouse in the back of The Grand has an excellent prime rib.

Seeing the ducks at the Peabody was interesting, but nothing I'd make a special trip for downtown only.
