So, I'm going to be 30.

... on the 26th.

The GF has a surprise bday party planned but I'm not supposed to know about it, so I'm keeping my mouth shut.

It seems so much bigger than any other birthday... the cons are all across the board, but hey, at least my auto insurance goes down by about 200-300 every 6 months, and I can switch back to State Farm now that my accident is over 3 1/2 years ago. :)

It's just another day. Not a magical milestone. You dick doesn't fall off, your hair doesn't fall out and there's nothing cool you can do after that age that you couldn't do before.

I never understood the 30 year old hype/doom/hysteria.

<---- is 33

It's just a number. Of course I say that, but I may feel differently when I turn the big 30. Oh god that's going to be soon...

I turned 30 this year. Biggest thing I hate about getting old is the physical side of it. I love being active and playing basketball. I just don't want to imagine the day when I'm old and slow and don't feel like I belong on the basketball court. I still am in incredibly good shape at 30 though.

I wasn't going to post this, but since your username asks for it:

Age is based on number of years. The length of a year is based on the Earth's revolution around the Sun. So the fact that you turn "30" means nothing. Birthdays don't matter. Getting older is a continuous process that doesn't really involve discrete steps (years). Not only that, but the number 30 is based on our decimal counting system, which is solely based on the fact that we've got 10 digits. So even if you count your birthdays, turning 29 is practically the same as turning 30, which is practically the same as turning 31.

Does it really feel like a big deal to you? I'm turning 30 this Saturday and it just feels like another birthday, maybe that's a little sad I don't know. A lot of my friends and family have been pointing it out like it's a big deal, but it seems like just another arbitrary year. Not that I won't be celebrating extra hard....if everyone wants to give me an excuse to go a little crazy, fine by me.

As a kind of side note: I definitely don't FEEL like I'm 30, but most of the people I deal with at work (colleagues and clients) are older so I actually feel kind of nice about getting to 30. Whenever my age came up previously I kind of felt like people perceived me as being pretty young.

Turned 30 6 years ago...nothing changes except teens and early 20-somethings seem to get more stupid, I know I wasn't that dumb at their age:hmm:

Don't feel bad, Capt Caveman is already over 40, unmarried, and no kids. Other than that his window of opportunity is closing fast and going through a mid life crisis, he seems to be doing fine.

30? OMFG! You're so over the hill!!

heh-heh...my wife rented a wheel chair for me on my 30th b-day...as we went to New Year's Eve parties...I went in a wheel chair. :p
40 bothered me MUCH more than 30...but remember, you can't trust anyone over 30...

Turning 30 didn't make me feel old. My kid turning 13 did. My middle one turns 13 next year. The sound of the nails going into my coffin keep getting louder and louder.

<--turning 38 this year.

...yeah. I'm turning 21 about a month and a half from now. And I really wish I was still 18. That was the sweet spot, IMO. Could drink, could go out, and could do all this with absolutely no work since I was still at secondary school. Now it's just literature review, anatomy, literature review, physiology, literature review...
