So I'm going back to school. Should I get a laptop?

I'm taking Education. So does anyone else use a laptop for taking notes or anything besides if you are a computer major?

Is it worth it? Or a waste of time?

Any suggestions on a decent laptop that won't interrupt the class with clicking noises?

Everyone I know who had a laptop at university had it sitting on their desk after a week. Those who didn't have it stolen, that is.

Buy a desktop.

As oppsed to what everyone else does at school?

You can't take notes well on a laptop in many classes. Anything that requires you to draw graphs or charts or diagrams is impractical, math classes for example.

You may or may not have use for a laptop. It depends on if you'll be using it outside of class, and the kinds of classes you take, and the professors that teach them.

Don't get one. Just about everyone I know going to college decides that they need a laptop, but I've only seen 2 or 3 people actually put it to much use. Pencil and paper work just as well as a Powerbook, and cost quite a bit less.

i hardly ever see someone taking notes in class with a laptop. Merc is right. It will end up sitting on your desk for the rest of the semester.

Buy, or better yet, build yourself a nice desktop for 1/2 the price and use the rest of the money for games :)

I know many business students to use laptops, but not Education majors. Stick to the pen and paper and buy yourself a desktop to use at home.

I always sat in the back of the classrooms and saw that the main thing laptops were used for was solitaire and surfing.

Too distracting, it's too easy to goof off.

You also won't be able to edit your notes by drawing arrows or going back and making side notes when the prof decides to change his mind about something during a lecture.

I have two desktops, so I'm good there. =)

But thanks for the input. I was leaning more to not getting one because it would probably be faster just to write notes down anyways.

I took notes with pen and paper then typed them into my desktop later. Actually helped during test time since I had seen the material twice already.

You'll do better without it...and teachers HATE having laptops in the classroom. It's distracting to them, to other students, and to you actually.

I'd probably watch a dvd during class. lol

Yeah, it's looking like just having a laptop for school is wasteful.
