Well, like the post sais, it sais what it sais.

What parts would be good for this type of computer? Gaming IS important though, my time will be 50% gaming 50% vid editing.

Id like to go dual proc for the system

money is no object, unless it is more then about $3400...

(Also, this will be for college, so gian 300 pound workstations arnt so good, it should fit into a EATX case, that wont break a back)

thanks!

Well a tyan mobo with scsi and possibly a few scsi drives and dual opterons would probably rock for the video editing....unfortunately at present they would have little effect on gaming performance. Unless you like to multitask and not have it effect your gaming, then the performance would be there.

I would try to hold off until we see some pricing on dual core opterons in the non 800series.....I would also like to see the AMD64 X2 options versus the P4 to see if the memory sharing the P4 is doing will swing the tied back to Amd or close the gap in these type of apps....

Basically it is a terrible time to build a PC!!!

I think the advantage will be AMD overall, since I believe they will close the gap, and they already lead in gaming.....

Video editing could do very nice with some scsi drives and 2gb+ of ram.....At least with the dual opteron system you get individual memory bus for each cpu so each cpu can run 2gb of memory on its own....I would get 4x 512mb....
