and it started at 6:00 central time (20 minutes ago). but there is no teacher! When will it be appropriate for me to get up and walk out of here?

**UPDATE** the teacher arrived at 6:30

so i should already be gone then?

Yup, the longer you wait, the better chance of the teacher showing up while you're waiting.

Just hope the teacher doesn't show up while you're walking out! So close to freedom!

I have walked out before.
I wasn't paying to sit in a classroom with a bunch of other people for an hour.

You don't know about the 15min rule? I've never walked out myself but I know people who have and missed out on important information because the teacher arrived late. The chances of the teacher showing up is probably slim so I'd leave if I were you.

15 sounds about right. I sometimes leave after 5 though if I really don't want to be in class.

15 minute rule is BS unless your instructor/school/university tells you explicitly. He has you for the set time so he can do whatever he wants.

I can't help but laugh when people bring up the 5 or 10 or whatever minute rule in college...its just funny.

Is your laugh particularly sonorous in an empty room?

Its funny because people talk about doing it, but very few (in my experience) ever do. Its also funny because I've been hearing it since 3rd grade and am now a senior in college....yet the rule never existed in any of my schools...just one of those rumors that never ends.

Your experience might be different.

I heard it had something to do with the highest degree the prof had... (I dunno. I'm still in HS)

The official rule for the University of Alaska Fairbanks is 15 minutes. You can leave after that point, if no contact is made with the instructor. That means if they call and leave a note, you have to stay... Otherwise, they have to let you makeup anything you miss if they don't make contact within 15minutes of class starting.
