I don't doubt that at all - I'm just wondering why it isn't prettier if so many people go to it. Even ebay cleaned up.

Ebay makes a crap load of money, craigslist does not.

I'm not even sure how craigslist DOES make money.

Why do they need to clean up? It serves its purpose. It doesn't need to be aesthetically pleasing.
 
Ok it doesn't. But the point of aesthetics is to make it seem more professional. If they don't want that, so be it. I have a problem with it but I know a lot don't. I work with tons of people who want function over form. I'm one of those who want it all... and frankly, it just screams laziness to me.
