if we had fingers all of the same length on the same hand...would it be better or worse or the same?

the lengths are good for making a fist and grasping things.. Close your hands around something like a baseball bat for instance and see how, because of the lengths, your hand grabs it very well.

but if they were all the same length as say the middle or index fingers im sure u can grab it just as well....

Anybody know if the fingers of other primates are different lengths too or are they the same? Human fingers may be different lengths for the same reason our toes are smaller - we don't use them the same way as we once did thousands of years ago.

I never understood why people use the middle finger. I mean if you really hated someone you'd undergo the effort to use only your ring finger. 😛

This is the version of the origin of "the bird" that I've heard. I've also heard this is BS, but it makes for a good story: The English conquered Wales in the early (12th century?) and captured many of the Welsh archers (who were considered to be some of the best archers in the world at that time). The captured archers would mock their English captors by waving their middle fingers at them and yelling "We can still pluck yew!". Yew was the wood used for the Welsh longbows and the middle finger was the finger used to pull the bowstring.

I'm sure you can see where the middle finger meaning "Fvck You" originated, if this story is true. 😀
