So I'm being sued by Russian scam artists...

Got into a pre-meditated car accident 2 summers ago.

=Recap of accident=

A late 80's Accord Coupe filled with 5 Russian immigrants cut in front of me and slammed on the brakes to induce an accident. I could not avoid it and rear ended him... I knew something was fishy right away.
We were going only at about 30 mph on the highway (heavy volume), and by the time he and I slammed on the brakes, I figured we were going 15-20 mph with a speed differential of about 5 mph or less.
VERY slight damage to my front bumper, no air bags deployed, no one "injured", yet. The ambulance came but the lady (who is now claiming to be injured and suing) refused medical attention on the scene because she was fluent in English.

I walked around to check out their car for damage and what not, and noticed brand new plates and registration, on an old, high mileage used car - obviously bought for the purposes of accident insurance fraud.
I told the cop, and although he agreed he said there was nothing he could do.

A month later, their lawyers send me a letter saying that I'm being sued and held liable for the accident, etc.
I fax the letters over to the my insurance co. and told them that I suspected fraud, and they said that they would take care of everything.
Thought that was going to be the end of that. I thought wrong 🙁

=End recap=

So fast forward to this past week, I receive a letter from my lawyers, hired by my insurance company, that I'm sued and am only covered for $100,000 per person, anything over that and I have to pay...

I'd like to get my hands on these bastards :|
Just sharing.

There was a law & order episode just like this. Sorry I can't be of more help - your situation sucks pretty bad. But in order for them to claim medical they have to have doctors in on it too to sign off on their "injuries".

You are probably dealing with the Russian-Jewish mafiya. Proceed carefully. You might wish to contact the FBI and let them know you think it might be Russian organized crime. Are you anywhere near Brighton Beach?

'eh let your insurance companies lawyers worry about it, I have my doubts about their success, but good luck.

This form of insurance fraud usually involves hispanics, who get paid $500 to do it.

It involves 2 cars working together and you (the target).

Most of the time, they go after those drivers that tailgate and such. So you're tailgating a car, then all of a sudden another car merges into the same lane in front of the car you're tailgating and slams the breaks. The car you're tailgating also slams their brakes, and bam, you crash into their rear bumper. The car that initiated the accident then speeds away.

Lesson of the day: Don't tailgate and be on the lookout.

I'd love to make a "In Soviet Russia," comment, but all I can think of is "In Republic United States, Defendant sues BACK!"

Yes, they're foreigners, so it must be the "mafiya"!

Considering the logistics of the accident I find it unlikely that they will be able to successfully sue for more than $100k per person, so chances are the real victim in this is your insurance company. Fvcking bad situation though :|

One of the Russian Mob's favorites scams is insurance fraud through car accidents. Read up on them a little bit. They are bigger than the italians mob ever dreamed of.

The accident itself was on the BQE in Brooklyn.
I was commuting from NJ to Queens.

It's not like he saw them shopping or something. They're committing fraud in a way characteristic of semi-organized criminals. Millennium typed the exact thing I was thinking too.

This is true. An old beater car and a small fender bender makes it pretty hard for a major claim.
But this is why I always carry a camera in the car.

rotfl, but yeah, the situation sucks majorly. Can't you get a doctor and verify their "injuries"? Just watch out that the doctor isn't a part of the "game".

Your a MORON, this guy is being sued for 100's of thousands of dollars. His insurance company may or may not be able to cover it all, meaning HE'LL have to make up the difference. HE is UNDERSTANDABLY upset about the situation and all you can see is the apparent Polical Correctness or Non political Correctness of the FVCKING Situation.

Your a MORON.

It's a scam. It's a favorite scam on not just Russians but many other groups. Mexicans do this quite often too here in Cali.
Unfortunately some of my fellow Russian immigrants engage in this sort of shameful conduct, and other insurance fraud, and give the Russian immigrant community a bad name.

Yep a lot of people took advantage of the US allowing immigration to protect people from persecution. Probably less than 1-2% are the bad guys but it does give the whole people a bad name. I see the difference however.

Of course there is going to be some "doctor" who will say they were "severely injured" and can't work anymore.
Make sure you contact the insurance comissioner in your state too.

Can we get some hormone pills for this person? How about you say that again LESS the histrionics? 🙂

LOL!! I understand reading comprehension may be something out of your grasp; however, kindly note that I was referring to Millenium's post.

DOH!!! 😀

So... out of that 1-2% how many are in organized-crime? Out of that even smaller percentage you were somehow able to deduce, a priori, that they were organized? 😕

No more thread hijacking for me. Apologies to the OP.
