i just find this a little humorous.

Blind people can use computers too.

yes i know that...software that reads the text or someone else could be operating it for them...but i dont think the average person in this country knows that. its sort of like brail on a drive-thru atm.

heh...i once talked to almost blind guy when i was doing tech support...he had his comp set up to talk to him and tell him what his mouse pointer was over...the call took 3 hours to get him set up...he had had dsl service for 3 months but noone else had the patience to get him up and running...they had always just pawned it off on his comp manufacturer or sent him to microsoft(those were the usual solutions to getting rid of people you didnt want to talk to around there...)glad i don't work for them anymore... @ sbc...after he was connected he didnt know what to do, he had never been on the internet...so i spent another hour showing him how to use search engines and email, just basic browsing you know...ended up with a kudos and a commendation from my manager...

You have no idea how much time and money is spent making government webpages acessible to very small percentages of the population who are blind, partially blind, or have some other disability. I honestly think it'd be easier and much more effective to hire a few people in each state to read webpages to blind people over the phone.

In the course of doing my job throughout the years I have set up and repaired computers for the blind, the deaf and even quadraplegics. They can all use computers as well as we can, just a little bit slower.

One of the more memorable people I had the pleasure to help ws an ex cop who had been shot in the back, severing his spinal cord. He had gone on to get his Masters degree and was working on a Ph.D. I consider that more than admirable, perhaps amazing?
