i left my previous company and moved on to another company. but i checked my checking account the other day thinking i got my tax return money back but it turned out to be another paycheck.

so if they kept on paying you via direct deposit, would you just cash it out of the checking so they cant do a reversal or would you call them up and tell them to stop giving out free money to ex employees.?

yeah they have no way of finding you when they want your money back. If the account is closed you must have magically disappeared! 😕

my gf told me to cash it out and close the account
hahaha

its 3000 dollars
are you sure they aren't one of those companies who hold your first paycheck?

yeah. they used to. but did the readjustment on 1/1/06 so you get paid every month's end
and it cant be the bonus check, the bonus requires you to be actively employed on 7/1...

the amount is smaller than my normal paycheck... so i am so confused. i'll see if i get some sort of pay stub tonight in the mail. then i'll know for sure

I used to work for payroll and that used to happen every once in a while. trust me, they'll get it back somehow. 🙂

maybe its your pay from unused vacation time?

We have a weiner! This is a pretty good explanation actually, that and sick time usually get paid out.

QFT, especially with big corporations- they have an entire SOP dedicated to the process of getting that money- however trivial- back.

Depending on the size of the company (read: $$$ for lawyers), they could fvck up your criminal background pretty good if you left on bad terms or something and theyre spiteful.

Why tell them? Take it all and invest it in some interest bearing account. That way you get to make some money off their mistake and then ONLY when they actually ask for it back, give it back, but keep the interest you earned.

Most big corporations write it off in the end. The one I work for paid someone six months after he quit. About $20k and never went after it. He even called several times and told them they were still paying him.

I resigned a post I had in an IT position. They did not take me off the payroll (oops). I brought the check they sent me down to their accounting department and told them to stop paying me for work that I did not do. They finally took me off the payroll after I did that.

meh. 3000 dollars in my 4.5% online account probably only comes out to an extra 40 cents a day

how can one person (or in this case, company)'s ignorance be reason enough for another's jailtime

Because it is not yours, you know it is not yours, yet you knowingly kept it. It is essentially theft, though that may be too strong of a word.

You could, however, just keep it and wait for the collection agency/police to call.

I honestly think if you are asking this question here, you already know what you should do, but are just trying to validate what you want to do.

whatever you do, don't ask the company, it is possible they would know more about this than us (ATOT)
