You will be totally lost, there is no prologue to explain anything. It is totally assumed you saw the first one. It isnt a sequel at all, it is just act II of III.

I find it strange that you haven't taken the time to see the first one but are willing to wait in line and see the second one. Anyway, yes, rent the Fellowship before seeing TTT.

if you didn't see the first one. Don't even bother seeing the second one, not even talking about standing in line ;)

its a thousand page book. 1-3 are one book. if u've read, sure u won't be lost, but it would help to have seen the first one. if u havn't, u will be wasting your time.

why didn't u rent the 1st one?

I'm glad that's cleared up...

I want to go with my girlfriend, but she hasn't seen the 1st one... And I guess we'll have to wait until she does. But I definately want to see it in the theatres.

We were debating whether it would be worth seeing it.. We decided that it boiled down to how the movie was setup.. As a movie in itself, or as Act II.

so.. yeah. ;)

It is set up as ACT II.
There is no review of the last movie or a story summary.
It just starts where the first movie ended.
Peter Jackson says about it (read my sig)
