do a clean, new install on a new HD? Forgive me, I'm new to XP and just learning about it. But if you buy it, and it comes with just a CD, and you've got a new, unformated HD, how do you boot up without a boot disk? Or do the BIOS's of newer main boards support natively booting from the CD if you set it to do so in the BIOS? Thanks,
Your friendly XP newbie,

If you have a motherboard like 4 years old or younger, then it should support booting from a CD. Make sure you set it in the BIOS. Normally, there's an option where you can choose "CD-ROM, A,C" or something. Just look through each of the menus until you find it.

If you boot up with the CD, along the beginning, it'll ask what partition you want to install Windows XP to. If it's just on one whole HD, then just pick it. It'll also ask how you want to format it. It's fairly simple, and you should be able to get through it.
