Well, I would use FireFox instead of IE, but it won't open. I just dl'd the latest version, install went fine, and it won't open. No errors, no anything. I never have any problems with this computer, no spyware/adware/virus, very stable, never have trouble installing things, but firefox just won't open. The odd thing is that when i went to uninstall it, it said "Firefox is currently running, press ok to close it and continue with uninstall". Any ideas why it doesn't work?

System: Athlon XP 2500+, MSI board, WinXP Pro, 768MB RAM, up to date on Windows update including SP2.

Open up task manager and kill off firefox.exe, then try opening again.

You should clean up your profile and reinstall too

Kill firefox.exe in the Task Manager, reboot and try again. If you're using a Limited or Restricted-User account, try logging on as Administrator and running it first from the Administrator account.

Opened task manager, killed firefox.exe. Tried to open again, same problem. Killed it again. Did a restart. Restart is usually fast, about 15 seconds and i'm POSTing again, but this time, it was more like 60 seconds. :( I'm logged in the Admin account for windows. Any other ideas...... mechBgon, you are all over this forum, thanks for the help with the spyware, my friends PC thanks you.

You're welcome :) I'm afraid I fall short on FireFox stuff, but since the Powers That Be at work dictated that we install it, I've had the problem myself, and the solution I mentioned is generally a workable one.

If it still won't work, try this:

1) uninstall Firefox

2) enable the viewing of both hidden files, and protected operating-system files, then go to C:\Documents and Settings\youraccount'sname and hit F3 to do a search for all files & folders named Mozilla or Firefox (make the Search Doggie search for hidden & protected files). Delete them.

3) reinstall Firefox and see if it's happy now?

I did this, and it worked! Although, the first two times i did the custom install and told it to not install the "feedback agent", where as this time i did the default install. I don't know if doing this was the difference or your suggestion, but either way thanks once again.
