So I woke up today morning to find three free TVs waiting for me

First of all, I live in India, a poor third world nation. Next thing, My local state government in a bid to get itself reelecteded into office, promised free TVs for every one if they were voted back into power.

Well, to cut the long pathetic story short, they won and television sets are being given away door to door by government officials by simply showing proof of voter identity cards.

I saw trucks and trucks of television sets going around being distributed left and right (small portable CRT ones). So some moron came to my home this morning, asked to see my family's voter id cards and left three of them by my doorstep.

Heck, its not like Indians don't have other problems in life to solve, like healthcare, education, corruption, terrorism. Ain't populism grand.

So what the fvck?

Yeah, it ain't even one for a household.

IT'S ONE FOR EVERY MORON WITH A VOTE.

How about giving out some birth control instead of tv's...
Just seeing pictures of crowded streets in TIME magazine kinda grosses me out

Since when was birth control a better poll plank than promising free stuff?

The same thing holds true in your nation too.

Seach TamilNadu and free television sets. They are giving it away like hot cakes for anyone with a voter card without regard to status or anything at all door to door. I guess they are really desperate for votes.

I will find a charity to give away my sets to. I have no need of them. Perhaps an old age home/hospital or something outside this state.

Damn I wish the Gov't could buy my vote.

Thry are not in a legal type thing, for the US that is.

The OP never said they said you get a TV if you vote for us. Only if we win EVERYBODY with a voter card gets a TV. Since they are not asking who you voted for or checking on your vote they are just giving TV's to those that did vote.

Some places in the US do little things for voters that woudl fall in the same legal challange as this. In the US depending on how they did it woudl hold up in the courts, esp since it was done AFTER the election.
