As expected, it was all about waiting in line for 3 hours followed by talking to some lady for 5 minutes. In the end I got my license renewed.

Odd thing though, the men's room door had a sign on it that said:

Do not wash hands in sink, use toilet instead.

I didn't have to go that bad.

They are open on Saturday?

We have a place called DMV Express, where you can get minor stuff like license renewal done without having to go to the DMV proper.

Sounds like the Op was at the DMV improper.

Kahleeforneeya's option of making an appointment for routine DMV stuff rox.

IF I don't have time (or just plain forget) to make an appointment, (usually at least 3-4 days out, if not 2 weeks) then I show up at the door a MINIMUM of 30 minutes early...before they open. That way, I'm usually out of there in less than an hour.

There are DMV express around here too, but I don't think I could use it because I needed a vision test. I could be wrong. If I didn't need the vision test I could have just renewed through the mail.

I don't think you can make appointments here, and as far as arriving early... I got there 30 minutes after the place opened and the line was out the door, I think even if I came 30 minutes early there would have been a line, though probably somewhat shorter.

I spent 5.5 hours a few weeks ago between two trips to the CA DMV and 1x SS office to *finally* get my CA Driver's License.

There's this thing called scheduling an appointment ahead of time on the DMV website, OR going to DMV in the morning before they open.

I don't know what states you guys live in where you can make an appointment but I wouldn't assume that the rest of us can do that.

Anyways, sold my car a month or so ago and went to the DMV on the one day per week they are open late and somehow was in and out in about 20 minutes. 3 people in front of me in line, I dunno what parallel universe I was in.

I had to wait 7 hours on my first trip. I can't believe how inefficient it is. Half the people are just standing around doing nothing, and they have like 2 people on the offices that serve the most people.

Awww, I feel bad for all of you who wait in line at the DMV.

Last time I was there, they guy came out from behind the counter and asked if I needed help finding the right form or help filling anything out. Every one of them at the local DMV is super-polite and I've yet to have more than 2 people in front of me. (4 cars, 2 boats, 3 trailers, 1 camper results in I've been there more than once or twice. I can take care of much of the stuff online, but it seems that I always wait til the last minute before I realize I need to renew the boat registration else I can't go to the lake.)

It's goal in life to get a government job where you do nothing all day and get paid. If you think the DMV's bad, try the SS office. Work 5 min, afk for 2 hours.
