Holy crap! I got there at 8:05am. (They open at 8.)

There was a line around the building! After an hour of listening to this 50yo teacher griping about the line, while I'm trying to flirt with the little 21yo girl in front of me, I finally get inside the building and am issued a number. B044. The board shows they are on B023. Awesome, shouldn't be too much longer!

So, 3 hours later my number is called. Finally.

I get up to the window, my paperwork is already filled out and ready to go so I'm confident I'll be done in a jiffy.

I get to go back again because the bus was registered to a person AND a company. The seller just signed one line with his name and the company name. DMV lady says that isn't good enough and that he needs to sign BOTH lines. WTF? It's the same person! She said it doesn't matter, he has to sign for himself and for the company. "But he IS the company! And he even wrote the company name next to his signature!" I exclaim to no avail.

I'm driving out to North Hollywood tomorrow to get the guy to sign his name again. :| I'd just forge his signature but I suck at that. I could never sign my mom's signature in high school either. :( Sigh...

But at least I paid the fees ($230!! :Q) and got one of those red and white numbers to stick in the window (Temporary Operating Permit... And no, it does NOT stand for TOP unless you're talking about the DMV being on TOP of the dung heap!) so I get to drive it around while waiting for everything to sort itself out.

pretty sure they wouldnt have cared if you forged it. This past summer when I was at the Secretary of State (Michigan's DMV) some guy didnt have his title signed that he was trying to get transferred to his name. The lady tells him he needs it signed, he walks out, walks back in not even 2 minutes later with it signed. I heard her say to him, "they must live pretty close." He just smiled. They didnt give him any problems.

when we had to register our car and get a license for me in nj after living in ny, we had to go to the dmv 3 times before we got it right. to be fair, one of the delays was only because the eye test station was closed by the time we got up to the front.

one thing we did do that my wife suggested was we went very close to closing time. they lock the doors at closing time but they have to serve everyone who is already there.

and since those people hated being there probably more than we did, they picked up their pace quite a bit.

I was wondering about that too... Though it IS possible the clerk was really that stuipid or that apathetic.

DMV lines are horrible. I can agree with you there. Sadly, you had to wait all that time and they dinged you on a technicality - the 2nd signature. :(

As soon as I read "line around the building" and "issued me a number" I knew you live in California. I went through the same damned thing a few months ago after buying a car from a co-worker who moved out of state. I had to mail her another form to sign because they wouldn't accept a copy of the bill of sale. Bastards...I had the title to the car, the freakin' car and all the necessary paperwork but they wouldn't take it because I didn't have the original signed bill of sale.

That sucks man. I "only" spent about 2.5 hours at the DMV to get my driver's license renewed. I thought I did pretty well;)

He he, there's no waiting where I live in TX, no one even knows about the office, they contracted with a bank, gave the county a desk, the clerk is my neighbor.

Vehicle inspections are another story though:(
