you're talking about the buttons for the power/reset switch, activity lights, etc?

tape, maybe. I'd suck it up and bust out the tweezers and a flash light, though. for reasons totally unknown to me, it's never been standardized and the pin settings tend to be at least slightly different on every motherboard.

Yeah... the only really important ones are the Power and Reset switches. If they are not labelled, try and trace the wires on the big brick one to their locations on the front panel. If that fails, you can just try shorting the various leads until you find the Power and just use that one - for a while I ran my NF7-S on a cardboard box and shorted the leads with whatever I could find (nail, coin, screwdriver, etc)

Crude but effective...

I have the same case. And I used tape as suggested, I just assembled the three or four 2pin connectors in the proper order and taped them together and installed them all at once. Much easier than the tweezer route.

I'm having the opposite problem; my mobo only has the smaller plugs but my case uses one big plug for all of it. Talk about being pissed off at 12:30 a.m. when I thought I was FINALLY done reassembling my system!

you shoudl be able to identify the mobo some how (receipt for barebones system, companys website?) Then find the online documentation and read up or just give us some more info and someone will do the grunt work for you. Let me guess you wear a tie to work? ;)

EDIT: I should really read before I type, but I still don't see a sony model number or type go here to find it

So I was rooting around and found this and was curious if your board looked like this (since sony's site is so damn helpful :disgust: )? If it is go here and view the manual page 14 of the PDF or 1-6 shows the pin out in the bottom right corner.

If is doesn't look like this, look at the Mobo for who makes it.

EDIT: your other ASUS options are this or this.

I,ve searched enough to find that its an OEM board made by ASUS for Sony, but it is not listed or supported by ASUS on their website. You can try the Sony website they may be able to help

Is this your board It isn't listed on Asus's page because it was an OEM board made for Sony. I'm still looking will update soon.

Well since the other three boards from ASUS with the same initial part number all have the same pin out. From deduction I would assume that the pin out on your board is the same. I mean why would ASUS change one OEM board from the other 4 it was based on??

So Find the pin out for any of the three above and go with it. Remember that color is + (positive) and white is - (negative)...and if I have that wrong your machine will still work but the HD LED wont work, I think.

Have fun. BTW There was no conclusive evidence anywhere on the intarweb.

Is it possible to just buy a new switch/LED panel that has the proper plugs on it and install it in the case? My case is a Dell case but I'm using a regular board that is configured for the smaller plugs. I've taken the little board out with the switches and LEDs on it and have tried tracing the wires to see where they go. I still can't figure out how in the hell you tell which one is going to what switch, so I thought maybe I'd just get a new switch panel with the right plugs. Would Fry's have this?
