Well for about the past month, my cpu was getting roughly 40C idle. Now I know that is pretty cool already and you're probably all wondering why I'm complaining about 40C but on average my cpu idles at 36 and when it was reaching 40C, I decided to open up my case and check to see if anything was wrong. All looked fine, no heavy dust build up or anything. Airflow was good and I cleaned out the filter in the front of the case. Still it was idling at 40C. So today I decided to check again, and decided to clean the fans too. I took off the fan over the heatsink and what do I find?? A layer of dust covering around 60% of the top of the heatsink. I was like holy sh!t...no wonder its been so hot. So I cleaned it all off and now I'm idling (surfind, d/l ing) at 32C! Amazing!
Moral of the story? Don't be like me and check your heatsink for dust
Cliffnotes - Comp get hot, look inside, dont know why, check later on, finds layer of dust on heatsink, cleans it off, all good.
