Well for about the past month, my cpu was getting roughly 40C idle. Now I know that is pretty cool already and you're probably all wondering why I'm complaining about 40C but on average my cpu idles at 36 and when it was reaching 40C, I decided to open up my case and check to see if anything was wrong. All looked fine, no heavy dust build up or anything. Airflow was good and I cleaned out the filter in the front of the case. Still it was idling at 40C. So today I decided to check again, and decided to clean the fans too. I took off the fan over the heatsink and what do I find?? A layer of dust covering around 60% of the top of the heatsink. I was like holy sh!t...no wonder its been so hot. So I cleaned it all off and now I'm idling (surfind, d/l ing) at 32C! Amazing! :D

Moral of the story? Don't be like me and check your heatsink for dust

Cliffnotes - Comp get hot, look inside, dont know why, check later on, finds layer of dust on heatsink, cleans it off, all good.

Yeah, this is worse for those of us that don't even use cases. It keeps them a couple degrees cooler, but every couple weeks, I find myself shutting them down & fingering out all the dust coating the hs fans. I really need to find a more frequent part-time job so that I can afford some cases.
