So I was watching HGTV and...

...they were doing an addition on a home. They then proceded to make the following statement, "The home used to be a 9,000 sq. foot Colonial, but the couple needed more space." Who needs more than 9,000 sq. feet? It's now three times it's original size.

That's nice. Do you laugh at the poor people when they drive their Porches around too?

I think someone is off by an order of magnitude. I can't imagine someone adding an 18000 sq. ft. expansion.

It was a big ass house. They had 25 foot retaining walls around it to support it's weight.

9k sq. ft and it wasn't big enough?!?! Jesus Fvcking Christ!!! :Q

That's just ridiculous.

My dream home that I plan to build has 3 bedrooms with a HUGE master suite upstairs (bedroom, exercise room, big-ass bathroom), a big-ass eat-in kitchen, a family room, a formal living room, 2 bedrooms downstairs (with their own bathroom) and then the home theater room. And even that will be, at most, 3,000 sq. ft. Add on a basement and that's maybe another 1,000 sq. ft.

But 9,000?!?!

That's like the show Designer's Challenge. The come in and some couple wants to redo their kitchen. THey give the info about how it's not big enough, needs a better layout, etc. THen the kicker is usually, "And they want to accomplish this for ONLY $50,000"

Where the hell is the challenge in that? If you can't do it for $50k, then you're doing something wrong. You want a challenge, come redo my kitchen for $2k. THere's a challenge....

I've lived in a few houses which were anywhere from 2900-3400 sq. ft. and that's plenty for me and my family.
