Well I'll be. 49 Gflops and 200W max @ 3.36 without hyperthreading. solid 62C. Wonder why your power is so much lower, though.

Also, is the hyperthreading hindering performance specific to specific kinds of calculations (wprime 32M tine goes up by a few seconds without HT)? Be nice to know whether to leave it on or off for some data analysis I'll be using this for shortly (once I get a stable config worked out).

Maybe I should have saved 20 bucks and gone with the i5 750

You know what? Those power consumptions numbers in HW monitor must be totally bogus. There's no way just my CPU is drawing 250W @ 1.1V. That's over 200 amps of current being drawn. In fact, HWMonitor reports 225A! This outlet is on a 50A breaker, and the outlet itself is 15A.

Am I missing something?

Edit: Obviously can't compare to the current coming from the wall. 110V AC != 1.1V DC.

But the CPU alone can't be consuming 250W, can it?

Who knows! I didn't install the thing until you mentioned it. I'd wager that the number is just a Wild Arsed Guess they put together from looking at the system volt use.

Well yeah, I'm gonna bring a power meter home from work and check it out.

Anyway, OC seems stable. Boosted the vcore by just .03V. My HW monitor "power meter" says this is using 20W more (250) at load. That is with HT enabled.


20 passes of linX and counting.

Hopefully it works. Are there any links to detailed i7 860 overclocking discussions? Everything I can find is either about the 9xx series, people pushing 4 Ghz or something ridiculous, or both.
