Then I realized you have to have lots of money. Dangit

? What are the basic requirements to be considered for an award
of a Steak n Shake Franchise?
? Successful multi-unit restaurant or retail operations experience
? Net worth greater than $1 million
? Liquid assets greater than $500,000
? Ability to develop free standing restaurant

I live in Crawfordsville, IN (~16-17,000 people)which is also home to Wabash College. There is one greasy local place that is open 24 hours in town, besides that there is nothing for the college guys. That's why I figured a Steak 'n Shake would be successful. We already have two Subways

W/ that type of competition and 2 Subway's in the neighborhood, perhaps you should pool w/ some friends and come up w/ a unique eat/drink spot, hope this helps :)

Steak and Shake, and larger, more involved restaurants like them are ventures you move up to, not into.

If you want to start your own business, you have to start small. One of my fellow franchise owners started by selling hotdogs downtown from a cart. He now owns quite a few franchised restaurants.

As a fellow Hoosier who has played @ Wabash College many times w/ my old band ... do not start any major business in Crawfordsville. Move to Indy. While your in college, the previous suggestion regarding a hot dog stand is a very good idea for a College town. Buy a cart(s) and sell dogs outside of the busiest bar, frat, etc. Money maker.

Actually, I've heard some numbers regarding a Quiznos franchise:

- Amount of payment for the franchise: $200K
- Estimated earnings for the first few years: $30K

I know an individual who was looking into starting one. However, the idea of waiting 5 years before cutting a profit, changed his opinion.
