Assuming you play on closed battle.net (the "real" battle.net) then yes, they are separate. You should be able to play on open battle.net with the CD Key you already have.

Open bnet characters can be edited/hacked/ridiculous stuff. You know, characters that do 1000x the amount of damage they should do. Kinda pointless in my opinion, killing every boss/character in the game with 1 hit...

Closed bnet has the ladder and such and is officially regulated by Blizzard. It's identical to the single player game except you can have more players. Most people don't play SP anymore as you can play the entire SP campaign on closed bnet by yourself or with people.

I think kabob already answered re single/multi player, but to answer your basic question... yes, you can change your cd key without ever having to uninstall the game. Easiest way is with D2Loader and one of various cd key changing programs. I use this method to run more than one D2 window on my computer (different keys).

No prob.

2 options for that, you can buy 'em on ebay I know (not sure of the price).

Also, I see bots all the time spamming d2 keys for sale cheap on battle.net...not sure if they're safe keys. I'd stick with ebay if I were you (make sure the seller has GOOD feedback though).

I know of a pretty reliable site that sells em for something like $7 a pair (D2 + LOD), less if you but multiple. Haven't heard any complaints about it. I wouldn't buy off ebay or from a spam bot.

Leveling is always a bore. I think I paid someone a couple hundred fg to level up my sin as I was at the point where I couldn't stand a single more baal run lol.

Ok, this has got to be an exaggeration. Someone said like 4,000 baal runs to go from 98-99...did they add an extra 0...or two.

This is sad, ever since I started playing again I've only fired up my Xbox 360...4 or so times, and two of those times were to watch movies...
