First, an 8x DVD Writer is listed on the spec sheet here

But, when I click on Customize/Buy, I don't see a writer listed on any of the specs, nor is there one under the media bay options.

While, it would be foolish for any company to make a notebook without an optical drive of some sort, this does have me a little confused. It does have an 8x DVD+/-RW writer, yes?

Lastly, for owners, what are your impressions of the 5720? I'm shooting to get one with a PM 760, 1GB RAM, 80GB 7200RPM hdd, 7800GTX, which is around 800 dollars less than the Dell M170 I was looking at before.

Is it a sturdy machine?

Do the fans produce a lot of noise?

Are the built in speakers decent, for a notebook? My current notebook's speakers are pathetic.

Anyone have any battery life estimates, using the standard 8 cell battery?

Thanks.

Hi All,

I had some of the same questions. A couple of guys on the notebook discussions forum are testing their's out right now and are going to report soon. Here are the question's I'm am curious about form anyone with experience.

(1) How is the fan noise level? Does it run as quiet as other Centrino computers?

(2) Can you play DVD's or CD's without the computer on?

(3) How is the battery life? Does it sleep and come back quickly when you raise and lower the screen? How long have you gone without recharging?

(4) What is your overall impression of the screen? Does the 1920x1200 look good? I do a fair amount of DTP work, so I like the possibility.

(5) BF2 is about the only game I play right now. Overall impressions on how well it runs?

(6) Overall quality and "feel" say compared to a Gateway or HP?

(7) How is the sound quality out of the speakers for music?

I would sure appreciate thoughts on these.

Thanks,
Brian

Varied problems. From what I've read on their forums, dealing with Sager's customer service is a pain. But, buying the Sager notebook through a reseller, such as PCTorque, gets you the reseller's much better support.

I'll still most likely get the 5720-V. I'll post my experiences in this thread after I get it after New Years.
