So I was driving on the freeway yesterday..... (weird)

.....and I started to see brake lights everywhere. I was in the right lane waiting to take my exit and I noticed everyone in my lane switching over to the center lane. Finally, it was my turn to switchover because there was a car turned around in the middle of the lane. It looked as though it had flipped a couple of times and was very badly dented up. As I got to the middle lane and passed the car, I realized that I knew the guys in the car. I stopped to see if they needed any help. They were trying to find a cellphone so I offered mine to them. They had one of those dinky spare tires on the back of the car and the rubber was totally gone. I then saw a woman approaching and she told one of the guys to go with her. A few seconds later, an SUV ended up pulling into the scene with its hazard lights on. They ended up scooping the other guy up and asking me to tell the cops that I was driving? I was like, "WTF?" I said, "Can't....that's my ride." And I pointed to my jeep with its hazard lights on. They all ended up speeding off and I was left standing there with a car on the freeway. I didn't actually witness the wreck and didn't want to have to explain anything to anyone so I ended up getting back to my vehicle and I went home. How is that for a messed up way to end a Sunday evening?

Sooo.. either it was a stolen vehicle or they are just stupid because obviously you can track down the owner of the vehicle by running the plates.

They never actually used it. They found theirs. I guess they might have been drinking and trying to avoid a DUI?

like leaving the scene of an accident with the car still turned upside down impeding traffic wouldnt be bad enough.

No offense but you might want to report it. If not you can be charged as an asserory for the crime.
Can I? I just stopped to help and everyone left. I was on my way home and my gf was waiting for me.... I didn't witness the accident and I didn't help any of those guys "make a getaway". There was a group of people on foot that saw more than I did.... I just thought it was weird to ditch a car like that.

Never narc on nobody!

Ahhh... they tried to get him to say he was driving. Do you think they will tell the police anything to get out of it, like saying he had soemthing to do with it? And if they come to him they will not believe a thing he says.

And yes you can be charged. You saw who was driving and saw them drive away, you are at LEAST a witness to a crime, and since you know the person you could be charged.

agreed, i would come forward as a witness.

and why should he try and protect that type of behavior? The whole point is to put it on their record so that they are less likely to do it again (i'm assuming DUI here). and IF they do do it again, they should face stiffer penalties if not jail time.

I definitely worry about people who drink and drive. I don't like it when those idiots are out their risking everyone else's lives. My only prob here is that I figure the police will figure out what was up cause they'll have to come up with some kind of story. They had a blowout with their spare so it's pretty obvious they'll use that line as an excuse. The people who told me to tell the cops that I drove were driving the SUV.
