First why get the 3000 when the 2800 is 18% cheaper? Don't you know they are the same chip?;) In fact a multi of 9 is preferred in the new 250gb due to proper OCing of 270+HTT and 3x FID.

Second the Epox board is the same price and infinity better. GB chipset first of all and chaintech is crap.

Three the Hitachi HD's are very loud. SPCR says 40 dB. Samsungs are the best plus 3 yrs warranty.

Four that memory sucks. Wrost timmings I've seen.

Taken from the OP's first post:

no need to overclock

So he should buy the fastest CPU within his budget, which I think is the 3000+.

Exactly how is the Epox board infinitely better? Is that your professional opinion or do you have links? Both the Epox and Chaintech have nothing but great reviews on Newegg. If the guy wants to pay $20 extra for Gigabit ethernet, he can go right ahead.

The Hitachi hard drive is the best 7200RPM drive according to StorageReview. The user reviews on Newegg nearly ALL state that the drive is reasonably quiet. The Samsung is a great SATA drive, and I recommend it many times too, but THEY BOTH HAVE A 3 YEAR WARRANTY. LEARN TO READ.

Memory timings have a small impact on A64 performance. Read up.

And in review, learn to read.

Thanks.,

The Epox is only $90. I think it's well worth $2 for the GB which has more than just gigabit ethernet. It includes on-chip Firewall as well. So which do you think is a better deal? I could show you how well it overlcoks compared to chaincrap but it's a moot point since he's not interested. But superior overclcoking is indicative of motherboard quality and quality IC's which chaintech lacks.

I don't dispute it speed but it noise is intolerable so I would'nt in good consous recommend hitachi drives.

Even if better timmings only offer 1% improvement, is'nt it worth buying that instead for less?

Take it easy I did'nt mean to burst your little ego just offering better and/or alternate recs.:)

A-DATA vs. Mushkin?

The Chaintech is $80.99 and recommended by Anandtech, the site you are currently posting on.

According to StorageReview.com:

Hitachi 7K250: 41.5 dB
Samsung Spinpoint V80: 41.2 dB

Holy SH!T, .3 dB??? Now I can finally sleep at night with the computer on!

I said it wasn't necessary but I do agree that it speaks volumes for the MB...

And while I said I don't need to, I never said I've never done it before.

Who cares about idle noise? which is all they measure at storage review. Try SPCR which measure it all with a $25,000 sound pressure meter instead of a microphone.

Heres a link how well it Overclcoks...you sure as hell won't find a chaincrap doing this

Link

For a person who isn't overclocking, that's a very informative link.

Dont get the K8T neo. Not nearly as good as the K8N Neo2. Go socket 939 also they will last much longer. Also if you could wait another couple of months then BTX and Nforce 4 will be released.

BTX is'nt coming to A64 ever AFAIK. The memory traces and position won't allow for it.

It will, eventually it will, AMD and Intel are smart enough to know that if they released 2 different form factors there would be big problems.

BTX is far enough out that worrying about it today is silly at best. Heck, I don't even think waiting for a PCI express mobo is worth it at this point. By the time these standards are entrenched enough that you can't get ATX boards and AGP video cards, any CPU you buy today will be long in the tooth anyway...

You're the one who linked StorageReview in the first place, so you must care.

The noise is intolerable? Review after review stating the exact OPPOSITE.

I prefer to take my opinions from people who own them.

Well for now AMD laughs at Intels BTX http://techreport.com/onearticle.x/6809

Besides, there's so much opposition from the taiwanese case and mobo manufactures don't be surprised if BTX goes the way of rambus for Intel.

BTX about as popular as SARS in Taiwan ...and Intel BTX chassis designs cause fury from partners

But you could always hedge your bets and get this case now whcih is both BTX and ATX compatable.

I would be very surprised if BTX did NOT go the way of RAMBUS.

ATX is where it is at...
