So I walked away from my job.

Well I walked away from my job. Only had a few days left before I officially quit but I was on a downhill slide that was affecting my health seriously. My parents actually called in that I was having serious emotional problems and had to quit. Boss seemed to understand. I was actually thinking of checking myself into the hospital last night but feel better now. I feel bad about leaving my staff hanging but I also fell emotionally much better. I've stopped drinking for one.

Still going on a holiday in 2 weeks to China that we have been planning for a while. When I get back I'll have to concentrate on getting back to school.

Flame away.

For those doubting I saved money.

Congrats on your quitting drinking, that always helps

Who is going to hold the door at Walmart now though 🙁

Believe me, I've thought about doing it more than once (and actually have only to have my boss beg me back - well, he threatened to fire me the last time a few months ago). I don't know whether to say "sorry" or "congrats".

What was the job?
Also, you had to have your parents call in and explain the reasons? LOL

Long story. Still live at home with parents. I was a manager of a local 7-11 down town.

lol I would have called myself or at least sent an email just so it looks more professional (remember, they're the ones that will probably be part of the deciding factor on your next job. Always good to keep good terms with old jobs). But it does sound like you did the right thing, if it meant quitting to drink.

Being a manager is not an easy job. Some management jobs are, but the others are the ones working 5 times harder then the average person.

Thanks. Yeah I was just in a really bad place. As for my next job I know what you mean. However my longer term goals are to go back to school and do a degree in Comp Sci/ Mathematics (already have about a 1/3 of this degree). So my next job might have almost no bearing on my last one.

Me too, almost 2 years ago, minus the parents bit. Ever heard of WWOOF?

WWOOF? Google only turns up:

http://www.wwoof.org/

That is it. Been doing that for almost 2 years now and never been happier. I still work a retail job 2-3 days a week for cash, but you can even find farms that pay stipends, although they usually require more work. I left my job in Ohio and moved to New Mexico and have been wwoofing ever since. It is definitely not for everyone, but I am amazed at how much I have learned and the people I have met. Also, there is something to be said about eating food you helped create and know EXACTLY where it came from.

That stuff is murder my friend. We got it in large bags and the machine squeezes it out literally like toothpaste. The stuff comes out in long ropes. I agree it tastes good but it wouldn't be the first thing I'd take.

Not worth it.

Get some Taco Bell authentic nacho cheese. Shit is to die for.

So tell us some of the stories........

Dropped taquitos and hotdogs put back on the rollers?

Late nights scratching lottery tickets and then claiming they were stolen?

Taking a shit inside a pack of coors light?

Good for you, a friend of mine worked there and they basically wanted him to manage the store for $9/hr, he walked out too..

Yes, excellent questions. Go Lakers!

Being a manager really sucks; I can understand your situation.

I dropped out of college for a while and took a job as an assistant manager of a restaurant. It was a year and a half of Dante's inferno: Getting shit from the worthless, do-nothing manager and owners on one side and from hard-to-replace servers and kitchen staff on the other. My parents had mercy on me (said they'd pay my tuition to go back to school) which allowed me to walk away; if I hadn't I don't know what shape I'd be in now.
