So I took a softball to the face last night.....

Playoff night for the team I play on, The Bombers. Coming in as the 2nd seed, tied for the best record in the league at 9-1. We beat the 3 seed in convincing fashion with a score of 26-10. We end up playing the #1 seed. Both of our losses came against eachother.

Anyway, they are having a big inning at the bottom of the 3rd. I play 3rd base, and a runner takes a turn at third and our SS makes a throw to me to keep the runner in check. Took my eye off the ball a little too early, ball glanced off my glove and hit me right in the chops. Blood all over the place, bottom lip has a nice little gash in it, top lip a little cut. Both are swollen quite a bit. Mind you, he didn't just "toss" the ball over to me. He threw at me looking for a possible out. He had a lil' mustard on it.

To add insult to injury (literally) we lost the game and ended up in second place for the 2nd straight season. All in all, it was a pretty rough night.

My son busted my digicam last week. Lenses are out of alignment, so no pics. Besides, the effect wouldn't be the same if I took a pic now and it wasn't all nasty with blood all over the place like it was last night.

On a side note, I did stay in the game that inning, and made the play for out #3.

Had something similar happen, had a line drive glance off the edge of my glove and hit me in the eye. Would probably have caused some serious damage if I had not been wearing my Gargoyles sunglasses at the time, they came through with a slightly bent frame (which was later fixed), but no scratches. I had a couple of small cuts from the top and bottom of the lens, and a bad black eye, but was otherwise OK.

did it hurt?

Nah, stunned/surprised for a little bit. Had to make sure my teeth were still there. Wiped off on my sleeve and was good to go. It was the championship game, I wasn't about to sit for anything.

Had something similar when I used to pitch. Line drive nailed me in the chest...swore I broke a rib but it was just bruising. Countless balls in the shins too...luckily none to the face.

Good thing you lost no teeth!

Yeah Kami I took 3-4 hard shots to the shins during the spring season. Had some nice bruises up and down both legs. Those hurt the worst since it's pretty much hitting right on the bone.

Ugh...that sucks. I took a flyball to the head a couple of years ago. I was in the outfield and somebody smacked one out of the neighboring field and it hit me right on the back of the head! I didn't even know what happened until I got up off the ground and people were around me telling me what happened. I sat out the rest of that inning, but went in for the rest of the game. 🙂

That's strange. Our softball team is also called The Bombers but moreso Prop Bombers. We also came in 2nd place last season with a record of 10-2. Went to the 2nd round of the playoffs and got our ass handed to us with a score of 15-6.

😎 We lost by the 10 run rule. 25-15. We were toe-to-toe with them through 3, then they started hitting the holes and gaps and we couldn't get a base hit. We managed to cut their lead to 9 by scoring 1 run in the top of the 5th, so they had to bat and score a run to win. Needless to say, their lead off hitter that inning hit a ground rule double to right.

In the spring season we ended up second but the team that one should've been in at least Division II if not Division I (we were in III). They went ended up 18-2 for the season and took it all. We were the #3 seed going in to it then.
